If their relationship is well written and a girl that is well structured and feels alive like Mieko is the female lead, then I'm totally fine with the Author changing his mind.

I'm thinking... In my opinion, Mieko will do something to make Fujin's heart melt and he will really care for her. Then during the massacre, he finds her dying and she gives him her newly evolved 3 tomoe sharingan! This is the perfect conclusion of this one-sided love story.
