I’ve liked the majority of your story so far but this is just lazy. A simple google search will reveal that ancient Egypt had fallen almost a millennia prior and by that point was already under Arab rule. Not to mention the 600 years they spent under Rome. By this point Egyptian paganism had thoroughly died out.

For a city of 108 000 people 8000 soldiers is actually quite a lot. You have to realize it takes quite an economy to care for so many troops.
