It's not that man.. I just don't like emo MC - made to look like he doesn't know how to interpret the world and the way it works... There are many examples of "non-Chinese" protagonists in WN who manage to have character growth without coming across as a whining whiner. It's like whoever is finding this "development" interesting to read thinks that a super power is the same thing as a video game cheat.. never was and never will be - it is an advantage that is part of you (or the character); just like any other "normal" advantage a person could have; how to be smarter, taller, stronger or agile. You can't blame Usain Bolt for being the fastest man in the world for many years - that's a talent of the guy. Just as it makes no sense to blame yourself for winning at something using your talent - it doesn't matter if you won without training because you were talented; or in this case for having a super power - the super power is yours; your advantage... Anyway, I just don't like reading about emo and depressed characters, who cry and feel bad about small things and things with obvious answers - my life is already too depressing for me to want to read stuff like that.

At the end; SharkBoy's own ability is a "cheat"... The MC was born with a power; it is his and for his use; and it's stupid to feel bad just because he used that power against someone normal - since "SharkBoy" himself was doing the same... His power was just different - when compared to a normal person; he possessed a super ability to play basketball. Blaming yourself for beating him using your super ability is stupid and emo

If I remember; Roy in the original novel never took pleasure in seeing people suffer, and the times he made people suffer was to increase the quality of souls - so, the reason for your MC's reaction can't just be because he's now a demon...
