It's just a cheap way for authors to keep readers coming back. I don't know if more readers come back than leave because of how annoying it is when authors do it but it happens all the time with webnovel fanfics.

I think it's people are reading your story for your oc so they want his perspective of everything(mostly), so when going so many chapters focusing on characters that they don't care about they lose interest. At least that's my perspective on it since I stopped reading this story a while ago and only popping in when I come across while looking for new stories.
