That's when I saw it. Clutched tightly in the girl's hands was an object wrapped in paper, covered in strange, random markings. And emanating from it was a strange, purple aura that seemed to pulse and swirl, like a living thing. The musty smell of old books filled my nostrils, and the towering shelves loomed over me like silent sentinels.
