The Black Lotus is primarily an information network, they're used as intel gathering, the examples being maids in the castle, and the capital, he sent them ahead with Eida and the Girl to escort them alongside the first half of their personnel to Oshorough where the ships will be waiting, their combat potential is mostly secondary if that makes sense, as for story advancing, it's going smoothly, just doing some setup for the next phase
