it's hard to read these recent chapters because I just can't follow Doevn logic. Why would he press on and even engage in conflict in such a state?

Looks like proficiency does not have a proportional increase. It's exponential. Basically, the more familiar I am with the technique, the harder it is to refine the technique. The last 100 proficiencies of this tier would probably be harder than the previous thousands. - i7mods3yrCommented
People keep saying he's wasting his time and meds. Apperently, they consider understanding the very thing that you're putting through your system, which could end your life immediately or cause long-term damage, a waste of time.
The experimentation on Foreign Medicine had to continue. He had to find out the long term effects of the treatment. In any case, the naked mice did not require much medication every day.
