Chapter 3: The Sergeant.

"Don't make a sound." I whispered to the group behind me. Everyone was frozen in place. I decided to speak up with a little anxiety in my voice. "We need to gather supplies or else we won't last long." "Let's move to the supermarket" I whispered up to the group of people behind me. I peeked around the street then I caught a glance of a shop. I nodded and we moved in the direction of the market.

The roadways were filled, bodies torn apart, the road painted with blood and organs of people. We tiptoed near the corner of a structure. I glanced in the way of a supermarket, a shiver ran down my spine as I saw that at the opening of the market there was an alien standing. "Is there another entrance?" I raised a question to the group with a stutter in my voice. The old guy responded in a serious tone "No kid, there is an entrance from the back but it only opens from the inside."

What can we do? I felt like something was building up in my stomach. If we don't consume food or anything we are gonna have problems. I felt the gears in my brain rotating for an idea. I already felt exhausted only just from my brain. I realized I need to grab the attention of the demon somehow.

"Annie, you are going to need to stay with them alright? I'll take the monster's attention and you guys open the backdoor from inside alright?" I spoke rather scared, fear could probably be heard from just my tone. Annie only looked at me but from our glances meeting, I understood she didn't want me to go.

The old guy spoke up calmly "Okay young man, we'll take care of your sister until then."

I nodded in acceptance. Am I going to die? That's the only question I could ask myself. What's going to happen to me if it catches me? Don't, I can't think about stuff like this. I ran out to the middle of the street and shot at the monster.

"C-catch me you son of a bitch" I tried screaming but it felt like a bulge was blocking my throat, I turned around and started running. I looked back and I could see the monster coming after me. I was running with everything I had in me, my breathing felt heavy, I was covered in sweat I already depleted all of my stamina. I had to lure the monster a bit further away. I ran into an alley, and I could hear its footsteps without even needing to turn around.

The gears in my brain started rotating again, even if I shoot the monster I'll only be able to stun it. I glanced around despite my heavy panting, I found myself at the back of the supermarket and when I reached the door I knocked as hard as I could. The old lady was there but she didn't open the door. She grinned at me, my body on the edge nearly collapsing I dragged onto the knob and tried pulling it open. It didn't work.

"Open the door hey!" crying out my voice filled with despair, tears formed at the edge of my eyes. But she was just looking at me. They didn't open it. They lied to me. They lied. The monster was getting closer and closer I didn't have much time left. I reached and grabbed onto my shotgun the monster was only a couple of meters away. I could feel my arms getting pushed back from the impact of the gun, my shoulder hurting and I nearly collapsed from the pain. I fired it successfully, the bullets causing the monster to fall.

I ran with every last of my strength back towards the front door. When I finally reached my destination I kicked the front door in and got inside. I quickly glanced around for material and then barricaded the door, I heard the monster sniffing on the door and punching against it. When I pried my eyes open after a couple of heavy panting I fround the group looking at me from the front. I glanced at every one of them, my killing intent could probably be felt. They were the ones who betrayed me. When I saw the old lady, I went at it. It felt like my mind darkened and I lost sense of what I was doing. I swung my right arm and punched her in the face. She instantly got knocked back.

I looked at her on the ground bleeding, I found myself smiling. I jumped at her but multiple men intercepted me from beating her to death. Once I was off her, my sister ran into my arms to hug me. Her eyes were filled with tears and her body was quivering. "Let's just grab something to eat" I spoke the thing that came into my mouth first in the middle of this awkward silence.

We made our way towards a nearby restaurant, grabbed some food, and sat down to eat. "Why don't we introduce ourselves properly?" questioned the old guy. "My name is Jeffrey," he said, his name is kind of fitting for his old personality. "My name is Jennifer" spoke up the old lady in a disgusted tone. I just wanted to kill her myself right now, but I held myself back. "My name is Daniel, he is Brian" he pointed at the black-haired guy. "And my name is Kevin," said the teen quietly. Daniel and Kevin seemed to be about my age. "My name is Charles and she is Annie my sister" I spoke up rather loud but calm.

It was awkwardly quiet after. Our conversation ended as soon as it started pretty much. "We should grab some change of clothes don't you guys think?" Jeffrey Spoke up after a while. I only nodded, then we went to a clothing shop inside the supermarket. We put on some new clothes and then sat down again.

Then we heard something smash. It was the barricade. The monster smashed the barricade in and got inside the market its body was covered in a human's blood."No one move" I instructed the group whispering. But in a blink of an eye, it suddenly got in front of us. A shiver ran down my spine my legs shaking from the fear standing in front of me.

I glared at it. But for some reason. It was almost like it couldn't see us. So when the monster turned around to look for us I tested it. I took a couple of steps back and grabbed onto a wooden chair I threw it with all my might. The chair instantly shattered on impact and the monster jumped onto it and started smashing it.

My brain started thinking, I was almost drenched in sweat from the too much usage of my brain. Then I figured it out. These demons can only see moving entities and hear them. They can't see us if we are standing entirely still. I heard someone fall. I turned around But the monster started looking our way. I noticed my sister on the ground looking at me in fear, our gazes met. The monster in an instant closed the gap between us I managed to dash to my sister and push her out of its way. The monster fell to the ground, looking around it already knew where we were. I looked at my sister and then at the old lady. I saw her fear as I gripped my gun and shot her in the leg.

She fell to the ground and started screaming. A slim grin formed on my face, almost like I was claiming revenge for the things that occurred earlier. The monster jumped onto her and started tearing her apart. Blood was spattering everywhere and it painted the tiles of the supermarket. I grabbed my sister and started running towards the door. Everyone followed after me without saying anything.

We quickly made our way out on the broken barricade and saw people outside for the first time. It was the military. We ran up to them screaming for help and they shot us with tranquilizer bullets. The next thing that happened is we woke up at a military camp.

My body aching in pain and hurting everywhere, they fixed my dislocated shoulder and scars on my body, and I arched my back and stood up. I wandered out of my chamber to make sure but It was more like a rescue center if I'm being honest. There were many retrieved people here and also numerous soldiers.

I went back to my space but my sister wasn't there anymore. I looked around in panic but suddenly a soldier entered my room and declared "Sergeant Jack, wants to talk with you. Dress up and come to room 200." I must have looked at him weirdly since he was almost frowning at me. I didn't say anything, almost like a brick was blocking my mouth from words coming up. I dressed up as I was ordered and went to room 200.

When I opened the door the Sergeant was already waiting for me. He sat down on a chair and spoke up "You must be Charles, take a seat." I nodded and then sat down. He looked old but had a dead serious look on his face. I looked at him and fear almost took a solid ball-like form in my throat.

When I sat down the door instantly got locked behind me and the sergeant in front of me pulled a gun out and pointed it at me. "Now tell me, your mother Jessica Sato. What is she?" he questioned. "I don't know what you are talking about" I spoke up and he instantly hit me in the face with the gun. The impact of the gun on my face managed to make me unconscious.

The next thing I noticed was I got tied up swinging in a completely pitch-black dark chamber. I didn't have any attire on only my underclothes. Then the light turned on and the Sergeant from earlier walked in. "Now tell me. What is Jessica." he demanded. I screeched up in pain, fear could be heard in my stuttering slow voice. "I don't know." he only nodded then grabbed a machete, and he slowly started slashing my stomach. I screamed in pain, tears forming in my eyes and my body begging. I screamed as the blade of the machete was slowly cutting my stomach.
