Bad At Love (Nicole Haught)

You sat at the bar, looking at the nearly empty bottle of beer in your hands. You almost never drank beer, especially not something as cheap as this, but you weren't particularly picky in this moment. The doors opened and you could feel something in your stomach churn, but not in an entirely bad way.

"Well hello Deputy Haught." Doc said and you turned to see Nicole walking towards you. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

"Yes please." Nicole said and Doc immediately reached for the same thing you were drinking. "I didn't think they served minors here."

"Excuse me, I'm 21." You said, pointing at your driver's licence. "So, ha."

"Are you drunk?" Nicole asked and you shook your head. "Okay, because I don't feel like being your ride home tonight."

"It's cool, I'm walking anyways. Ex took the car." You said and she gave you an apologetic look. "I keep making the same mistakes, it's like I'm just really fucking bad at love."

"Don't swear you're practically a child." Nicole said ruffling your hair. "Nobody can be bad at love."

"I can make love like it's nobody's business, but when it comes to love, like the feelings and shit, I always seems to fail at that." You said and she gave you a sad look. "The good ones never want me."

"I'm sure that's not true." She said and you nodded.

"You're good and you don't want anything to do with me." You said and she put an arm around you.

"That's not true." She said and you kissed her. "I'd love to take you on a date."

"Great, I'll pick you up for dinner soon." You said and she nodded. "How about Friday?"

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to spending time with you." She said and you laid your head on her shoulder, enjoying her warmth, both physically and emotionally.
