Volume 2, Chapter 2 - "Yagami Dai"

(Yagami Dai's POV)

Most people would think that I'm a little hyper. Well, if they saw me before the breach 7 years ago, others would say otherwise.

I wasn't as happy back then. I was only 10 but I did not have the luxury of happiness.

I come from a family line that is unique to us only. We have a secret power. We had the power to pass down our manifest to our successors.

Me? A successor? I would have never thought that.

I was loved by all my family members. I was chosen to become the successor to my grandpa. My dad was originally supposed to be the successor, however he had died during the breach all those years ago.

None of the women in the family could inherit the powers of the phoenix manifest. I wasn't told why.

I question myself; Why? Why was it me who had to inherit the powers of the Phoenix Manifest? I had asked myself that very question numerous times.

After my father's funeral, my grandpa told me that I had to inherit the Phoenix Manifest. I couldn't refuse since all my family members were there. I didn't want to disappoint them all.

A few years later, I tried to kill myself. I didn't want the manifest. I wanted to live a normal life. But it wouldn't let me. It prevented me from any means of harming myself. I hated it.

One day, I was on top of a building near the edge. It was a cold day. I had resolved to jump off thinking of killing myself. However, a voice stopped me.

"Do you really hate yourself that much to end your own life?"

I turned back and saw a boy with dark blue hair. He looked to be around my age. We were comparably similar in terms of height.

"What do you know about me? Of course I hate myself. I hate my manifest!"

"You hate your manifest? Why?" He answered.

"I–"

"Because it reminds you of what your father really should've had right?" He said in a firm voice.

How did he know? How did he know that it was my father's to inherit.

"I was there at your funeral. I was there for my parents who had been killed during the breach 3 years ago."

"Then–"

"I should know what it feels like to have people I love taken from me? Yes. Yes I do."

I looked back at the view on the edge. It was a beautiful sight. It would be the last thing I saw.

"If you wanna jump, do it. I've seen this way too many times for the past 3 years."

I stopped and looked back at the boy once more in confusion.

"For the past 3 years?"

"I was there every time you tried to harm yourself. Your manifest wouldn't let you. However after a long time of continuous attempts to kill yourself, I'm afraid it would let you simply fall to death."

"Why do you think that!"

I was getting mad, angry, confused. I looked him straight in the eyes. He was thinking.

"Why don't we find out?" He said smiling.

He ran over to me and pushed me off the edge.

Seriously, is this how I die? After countless attempts to kill myself, am I really going to let someone I barely know kill me?

I was thinking this while I was in free fall.

And then it all of a sudden became warm.

I looked back and wings appeared without me knowing, They were protruding from my back. They were made out of feathers on fire. Almost like a phoenix.

I thought back to all the times I had attempted to kill myself and then I heard a voice. A man's voice.

"Hey spark. It's your good ol man. I know you hate yourself, and I understand. You were put in a situation that should have been mine. This power you have is unique only to the men of our family. You were gifted with this extraordinary power. You shouldn't let this go."

Tears started forming in my eyes. It was my father.

"I'm afraid I won't be able to talk to you anymore but, I just want to let you know that I love you son."

I started crying and bawling. I was on the floor without me knowing. My wings faded away. Then the boy appeared as if he was waiting for me on the ground.

"I told you. Your manifest really cares about you. And its a very powerful one at that."

He turned and started walking away.

I wanted to know who this boy was.

"What's your name!" I yelled out while tearing.

He stopped and turned to me.

"My name is Konpeki Seiryu."

"That's a weird name." I said while chuckling and recovering from crying.

"Yea, I get that sometimes. Now then. Why don't we get you home, yea?" He offered his hand.

"What's your name?"

"Yagami Dai."

"You have a weird name too!" He chuckled.

I pulled myself up and we headed to my home. That was the last time I saw him.

Until, a year later.

I had noticed a certain dark blue haired classmate. It was him. We were in the same class. It had been a while since we last met, but I think he'll remember me.

However, I did change some things about myself, so I don't think he would. But I approached him anyway.

"Hey there! It's been a while since Konpeki Seiryu. I wanted to thank you for helping me a year ago."

"Huh?" He looked at me confused.

It seems he doesn't remember me at all? I should have known.

"It's me! Yagami Dai."

He thought to himself for a bit and–

"Nope. Doesn't ring a bell."

I looked at him in disbelief. And just when I was going to turn away–

"Just messing with you. Of course I do. I thought of how funny it'd be if I told you that."

I cheered up and turned to him and hugged him.

"And that's how I met Seiryu and became his best friend!" I said happily to Nicolas and Dronikus as they clapped their hands.

"Thank you for the story. Now then, you asked us to help you get stronger right?" Nicolas asked.

I nodded.

"Alright. We'll first start off with your manifest." Dronikus said.

"Yes sirs!"
