Volume 1, Chapter 6 - "The Consequences of our Actions"

(2 weeks later)

It's been 2 weeks since the encounter that night. Sagiri was safe since Fujiwara was there with her, thank god.

Ina and Dai were asked questions about what transpired and were taken to the infirmary to get treated. I, on the other hand, was put on a protective watch since I was the target.

Since then, everything has died down as there were no more victims to the bloodsucker.

I was in my room working out as I needed to get stronger but I have a feeling this training regimen is failing me. But at least it's kept me fit.

It was my day off from the academy so I have to make the most of it. Also Sagari's at school in case you're wondering.

I heard the doorbell ring and I went to answer only to find that they were already inside the house. Sagiri had already gone to school but she always had a habit of leaving the door unlocked.

"Good morning Konpeki Seiryu. Please excuse me for entering your home without permission."

Headmistress Lisagarte, the headmaster of the academy, and also nicknamed "Storm Witch" by many, was drinking a cup of tea on my couch.

"Good morning. And what business does an important person like the headmaster of the academy have here?"

"Oh? I came just to check up on you."

"Is that so?"

I used my mystic eyes to look around. And what do you know? Several students are keeping guard outside.

"Ara. So that's how you beat Ryudou Shinji? You know, you aren't the only one with the power of mystic eyes," as she activates her own with her eyes glowing purple.

"Yea I know. But what is your reason for being here other than checking up on me?"

She looked at me in surprise and smiled.

"Hmmm. You figured me out quickly."

"I know someone who can read a person's facial expressions"

That being my sister.

"So I was told. But the reason why I came here is because we need your assistance with hunting down the perpetrator of the now halted incidents."

"Why me?"

Yes. Why was my assistance needed? I mean, I did come into contact with the girl but I'm not a dog who can sniff out people.

"Your blood."

"My blood? She didn't even-"

"She did. We tested the liquid blood that she conjured for her bloodhound and some of it matched with yours."

"Wait when did you-"

"It was during your voluntary match with Ryudou Shinji. Blood was drawn if I recall when he used one of his techniques on you. After the match, we, or should I say Secretary Raiden collected a blood sample from the blood stained floor."

I'm just as confused and weirded out as any normal human being could be. Taking a blood sample from the ground? But I guess I was too obvious because Headmistress Lisagarte noticed.

"Yes we did do that. And no. We don't do it to any other student."

"Alright. So how did they suck my blood because I clearly remember not getting bit."

A smirk appeared on her face after asking this question. To that she had to respond as-

"She collected your blood that was on the floor after your fight with Ryuudou. One of our security cameras caught her in the act. She was disguised in our academy uniform making it hard to identify her as she was wearing a mask. We only just found out a few days ago and got done with a debrief with the local authorities."

Disguised huh? A certainly clever move I must admit myself. However, during hours let alone in a crowded space? A pretty bold move.

"Alright. When do we start?"

Another smirk appeared on her face.

"The hunts already started. Oh I almost forgot to inform you. Your friends are already out looking for her. They couldn't sit by and do nothing."

After the headmaster left, I got ready and headed out. I left a note for Sagiri about my whereabouts so I think she'll be alright.

 (Later that night)

I was taking a stroll through the urban areas by myself. I was in deep thought of what happened that night. I still can't shake it off.

The fear had overcome me and I was desperate for Sagiri's safety. I mean, luckily Fujiwara was able to get to our house. Not that the girl ever went there in the first place.

"Help me"

I heard a weak voice calling out to me. It was to my right, which was in fact another alleyway. Man, alleyways always seem to gravitate towards me for some reason.

I followed the voice. It was a girl's voice. Specifically someone around my age.

It felt what seemed like an eternity but when I finally reached the source of the voice, I couldn't believe it.

"Help me."

A girl laid on the ground covered in wounds and injury. A girl with hair as dark as night, and with her mask on. One that looked like the attacker's.

"Help me. Please."

She was the girl who attacked me and Ina that night. But why was she in this state of condition? But she was someone who needed my help so I had to disregard the fact that she's my enemy, so I hurried over to her and picked her up with caution and hurried to the academy.

"What happened to you? How come you're all covered in bruises and cuts."

It wasn't just that. She also had burn marks as well. A flame manifest of some sort. Maybe Dai found her and fought her? But then that wouldn't make sense.

And then she started to speak with her weak voice.

"They threw me away. Said I was useless."

"Who did?"

Who was "they" and why did they say she was useless. Whoever they are, they're the real enemy. But I'll have to discuss this with the others.

"Hey, I'm going to take you to the academy where they can heal you, so don't die on me!"

We were pretty far away from the academy so it'll take me about 10-15 minutes to get there by running while carrying her. If my hands were free then it'd take a few minutes.

 (2 hours later)

We were in the infirmary to keep an eye on the girl. She was to be kept on watch at all times, we were told.

When I brought her to the academy, I received a lot of backlash from the people involved with the mission. Bringing an enemy into your home is what a stupid person would do, and I am that stupid person.

"Oi! Seiryu! There's a reason you brought her here right?"

Dai was also involved. I forgot.

"Hmm? Oh, uhhhh-"

"Yes, I thought so."

It was then that Headmistress Lisagarte came back from her meeting. And it looks like she's got something to say.

"We will have to imprison her after she recovers from her injuries, but Seiryu, why did you bring her here? You are endangering everyone here at the academy."

I was expecting the headmaster to ask something like this right when she came back.

"I thought it was the right thing to do. I go to this academy because of this reason. We're supposed to be protecting people. And she is a person just like any one of us. Or else, what is the point of being a Manifester if you can't help someone who's hurt."

What I said is true. I became a Manifester so that other people didn't have to feel the pain I felt 7 years ago. I promised my parents at their grave.

"Ungh where am I?"

To my surprise! I had no clue that she would wake up so soon.

"Hey you're up. How are you feeling?"

"Hurt."

"By the way, you're being treated here at the academy. I brought you here after finding you wounded."

"Why? You should have let me die."

"You wanted help. And you got it."

I took a look back at the Headmaster and Dai listening in on our conversation. They simply nodded their heads and stepped out.

"But. There is something I want to know."

"What is it?"

She's getting agitated. Looks like she knows what I'm about to ask.

"What happened to you and who did this to you."

"Are you seriously asking an enemy what happened to them, especially since they tried to kill you?"

"Yes."

"Wow you're pretty stupid."

"Well, this stupid person just saved your life."

She quickly looked away. Heh, looks like she didn't think this through.

"Wanna take your mask off?"

"No"

I kind of expected that answer

"Anyways what happened to you, and who did this to you?"

"Again with the questions. Fine. In return for you helping me, I'll answer your questions. *Cough Cough*"

She's a pretty difficult person to break huh? Now that I think about it, I never got her name.

"Alright. What name do you go by"

"Why do you want my name idiot? *Sigh* My "Friends" call me Yoru."

"Ah, that means, night, right?"

"Obviously, idiot. What's your next question? *Cough*"

The questioning took a while. Yoru is quite the tough girl, but I managed to get some information from her. While all this was happening, I was being monitored. I mainly asked questions anyone would ask like "How old are you" or "Do you have anyone you like".

But her answer to one of my questions that I asked was not what I was expecting. I asked about her cultural background and she replied with-

"I belong to the Nosferatu race. In this world, you would call us vampires."

She's a vampire. I had no clue that vampires existed but considering that demons are a thing then it's not unorthodox. Her race must have come from the other world. Of course I did inform Headmaster Lisagarte of this discovery.

Man, I sounded like some mad scientist when I asked her those questions. I decided to end the questioning an hour later as she just woke up from being treated, and she still is, but under watchful eyes.

 (Later in Konpeki Seiryu's dream)

I was walking in a dark place. I could not see anything. I could not smell anything. I couldn't hear anything. I then found myself in a lit up area where 2 rocks were residing. I walked closer to the rocks and saw some inscriptions. I couldn't believe it.

It was my parent's graves. Why was I dreaming of them? I was so confused so I turned away. When I turned around, I saw the back of a person in front of me.

"Hey who are you!"

They didn't answer back, nor did they turn to me.

I realized that I couldn't move my legs as I tried to mov, but then they turned towards me.

Chills came up my spine and throughout my body.

The person in front of me was a familiar person who I knew all too well.

"Hello Seiryu. It's been a while since we met."

We met before?

"WHO ARE YOU!"

He just stared at me.

A smile then formed on his face.

And then everything went dark.

 [BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP]

*Sigh* An all too familiar sound. Waking up to the sound of the alarm clock felt relieving. I had no clue as to who they were.

I did my morning routine and headed off for the academy. Today was also a day off since we do have a potentially dangerous person on campus.

Dai joined up with me on the way and told me what's going to happen going forward. I asked about Ina and Fujiwara and he told me they were already at the academy.

"So. I've seen you looking at Fujiwara. You like her huh?"

"What brought this on?"

"Listen man. I am super lonely. I have never gotten a girlfriend. I'm jealous."

"Whoa Whoa. Calm down. I don't wanna hear your sob story."

Oh yea. He does this when he's nervous.

"Alright what do you wanna talk about."

"We might die. This mission that the Headmaster's going to give us might get us killed."

Yagami Dai. A cheerful and bold person is worried about dying, of course I would too.

"Don't worry. I'm sure everything will be fine. The adults can handle it if something were to go wrong."

Some time later we ended up in the Headmaster's office and greeted the others. Fujiwara and Ina were there as well.

"Good morning you two. Glad you could make it."

She started the debrief with the four of us students.

Our mission is us attempting a raid on the base of operations that the vampires were holed up in. The bloodsucker incidents started to resurface a week after that night, meaning that there were more who were like Yoru. Yoru's failure in killing me and being recognized put a stop to their activities.

We were going to raid their base in 15 days.
