Inheritence

As Meng Lin felt that now familiar strange energy enter her body, a smile appeared on her face.

After a few minutes of having her body and soul strengthened, Meng Lin began walking back to her abode, as she did this, she passed by Gao Lei.

When finally, noone could see the expression on her face, a creepy smile appeared on her face.

...

"What is this," mumbled Gao Lei as he struggled to speak, right now, he could not move his body in the slightest.

Before Gao Lei could do anything, his head was suddenly separated from his body.

Only when his head flew up in the air and let him see Meng Lin's true face at the back of his bed did he realize what had just happened.

As a picture of what happened appeared in his mind, Gao Lei gritted his teeth.

"Damn wench, what did I do to offend you?" mumbled Gao Lei's severed head as he finally lost consciousness for the last time.

The moment Meng Lin ensured that Gao Lei was dead, her body began dissipating into nothingness, leaving no traces for anyone to follow.

...

"Interesting, this could not have gone any better," mumbled He Qiao as she stood a small distance away from Gao Lei's house, but before she could do anything else, a rusty sword stabbed her from behind and straight into her heart.

"So you were the one that tricked Wang Jun," mumbled Meng Lin before cutting off He Qiao's head, not giving her any opportunity to fight back.

Suddenly, a frown appeared on Meng Lin's face, she then began to silently run to He Qiao's abode, but as she entered it, she smelled blood.

Without caring about anything right now, Meng Lin barged into He Qiao's room before going straight under the bed and opening a hidden hatch.

And after she did that, she saw the body of a female cultivator that had been cut in half.

After examining the dead body for a few moment, Meng Lin frowned.

"He Qiao possessed her," mumbled Meng Lin before a small flame erupted on her finger before enveloping the dead body.

Watching the fire spread from the body to the wooden floor, Meng Lin leisurely left the house before sighing.

"Gao Lei was really pitiful, he was implicated by He Qiao without even doing anything," mumbled Meng Lin as her eyes looked in a particular direction.

Seeing the middle-aged man look directly at him, Yuan Jianjun frowned before running away from the scene.

"Really troublesome, just as I heard," thought Yuan Jianjun as he rapidly fled the scene.

...

"So this is why the inheritance gave us time, in between the trials, this is a secret trial," thought Meng Lin as she looked at the 35 cultivators around her.

"Fourteen people died in just a night," thought Meng Lin, knowing that the end was almost here.

"It is time for the last trial," said the artifact spirit, causing a weird silence to ensue among all of the participants.

"A battle," thought Meng Lin as she instinctively knew what she last trial would be but even so, she was still slightly worried.

Of course, as soon as Meng Lin realised it, every other trial taker soon realised it as well, the group, which still feigned friendliness before, now seemed utterly hostile to each other.

"As you may have expected, this last trial is of course, battling, more specifically a tournament and a free for all," said the artifact spirit, causing some of the weaker martial artists to somewhat frown.

"Let it begin," said the artifact spirit, not giving Meng Lin enough time to prepare.

...

Looking at the punch that was coming towards her face, Meng Lin swiftly dodged, her much faster speed allowing her to punch the martial artist in the chest.

"He's weak," thought Meng Lin, deciding to finish the battle early and to not leave her opponent any more chances.

Meng Lin's opponent, who wanted to attack her once again, suddenly stopped, allowing Meng Lin to ruthlessly punch him in the throat.

Before Meng Lin's punch connected, the two of them suddenly stopped.

"Number two has defeated number twenty-seven," said the artifact spirit before removing number twenty-seven from the inheritance.

After that, Meng Lin appeared in an empty arena, and began waiting for her next opponent to appear.

"The artifact spirit has probably already chosen who to give the inheritance to, this is only a formality," thought Meng Lin as she looked at her heavily injured opponent.

Suddenly, Meng Lin appeared in front of his face, letting out a punch toward his already injured head.

Before her punch connected, Meng Lin found herself in a large arena.

Looking at Yuan Jianjun who stood in a corner of the arena, a frown appeared on Meng Lin's face.

"I can't beat him, it's not even close," concluded Meng Lin as she looked at Yuan Jianjun, a plan forming in her mind.

After a few minutes, seven other martial artists appeared in the arena, and unlike before, they seemingly had their injuries healed.

"Begin the battle," said the artifact spirit, without any hint of warning.

Mere moments after the artifact spirit said that, the seven martial artists suddenly leaped towards Yuan Jianjun, one of them looked at Meng Lin for a moment before an annoyed look appeared on his face.

"Too dumb, we need to eliminate the biggest threat," said the martial artist before no longer paying attention to Meng Lin.

After seeing that, Meng Lin sat down and looked at the scene in front of her with a smile on her face.

"It's as I guessed, I can't beat him alone, no even if all eight of us teamed up it would still be useless," thought Meng Lin as she looked at Yuan Jianjun who right now, was easily toying with his opponents.

Merely minutes later, all seven of them were eliminated and not as much of a scratch could be seen on Yuan Jianjun.

"I give up," said Meng Lin as she decided that obtaining the resources from the second place was good enough.

"Why did you give up?" asked Yuan Jianjun with a frown on his face.

"I can't beat you, Isn't that enough?" asked Meng Lin before letting out a leisurely yawn, having obtained what she had come here for.

The actual reason Meng Lin gave up, was because the inheritance of a martial artist was of no interest of her, someone of a different cultivation system.

Of course, unlike Yuan Jianjun, Meng Lin did not know what treasure the inheritance had stored up, otherwise, she would have fought for at least o chance of obtaining it.
