City Hunter

Jaxon quickly checked the remaining gifts one after another.

The healing potion wasn't any different from the items he had seen before in video games. It was, a red liquid inside a small potion jar, and as mentioned in its description it had the power to heal injuries and minor diseases.

Would it just heal a wound normally? Or would it even regrow body parts that may get cut off? Jaxon wasn't sure of the extent of its potency.

Since he didn't have any injuries and wasn't willing to hurt himself to try its effects and waste one of the two bottles of potions he had, he kept the 2 potion bottles aside for now.

"I'll trust you on this one system," Jaxon said to the unresponsive screen in front of him and moved on to the next thing.

"This doesn't seem like a physical item..." Jaxon clicked the Skill Booster gift, which just gave him an option asking which skill he would like to boost.

A part of him was still a little mad about the insult he felt regarding his boxing skills, but he controlled himself to not waste the two skill boosters he had immediately.

Jaxon wasn't sure which skill he would even upgrade, from a normal perspective evolving his two fighting skills seemed to be the way to go. His firearm and his boxing skills would be an obvious choice when it came to protecting himself.

But at the same time, after the recent car chase he faced with an amateur, his driving skill also seemed like a decent option to choose from in case he was ever in a similar situation but with a better driver chasing him.

Interrogation also seemed like a viable option especially considering his job although he didn't really know what a better interrogation would even mean or even lead to.

The only thing he was sure of, however, was that he clearly didn't want to upgrade his lock-picking skills as of now. Not to mention the 0 proficiency points he had regarding his newly gained skill, the fact that he would have to choose all of his boosters to upgrade this skill to the intermediate level seemed like an idiotic choice.

"Using the boosters on whichever skill I would require to be better at in the moment, seems like a better choice." Jaxon nodded to himself as he closed the tab not upgrading any skill at the moment.

"Now the finale..." Jaxon clicked on his newly acquired title, although not sure what the title really meant, the benefits of the title itself seemed like a no-brainer, to doubt it further.

Not only would he acquire a +1 attribute to all his stats, but he would also be able to gain a 10% reputation points boost which by his experience was extremely needed. For every 100 people he would influence he would gain an extra 10 points and further more, the title itself seemed to be upgradable.

Already tired of the 'Fuck around and find out yourself' motto the system seems to adhere to, he had already given up on arguing on the whole mystery 'Certain criteria need to be fulfilled' requirement.

Using the title without thinking further, Jaxon checked his stats and there it was, every single one of his stats had been increased by 1.

"I don't feel any different though..." Jaxon jumped around a few times, used a few boxing moves, and even ran around his room a little, "I can't tell much of a difference no matter what I try, except for my hangover that seems to have passed."

"Maybe I can test it out in a more practical environment."

All done, accessing his system, Jaxon couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation about what lay ahead.

The system, while frustratingly cryptic at times, had given him tools that could potentially change his life. Now, he just needed to figure out how best to use them.

Jaxon who was extremely excited, raised his hands and yelled with all his might,

"JAXON CROSS IS HERE BABY! AND I AM HERE TO STAY!!"

*Cough*

Jaxon hurriedly turned around, only to find Emily who was peeking through the door holding her laughter.

Embarrassment and amusement battled for dominance on his face as he straightened up, trying to appear more composed.

"Morning, Jaxon," Emily greeted, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Feeling better, I see."

"Uh, yeah," Jaxon rubbed the back of his neck, a sheepish grin forming, "What are you still doing here?"

"Somebody was supposed to drop me off but got too drunk to even handle himself, so little old me had to sleep on the couch." Emily said shaking her head, "I thought you would be dying from a hangover but it seems you're more energetic than you have ever been,"

"Of course, I feel fine." Jaxon said with a thumbs up, "Drinking is my passion, so how can it ever bring me down,"

"Okay Mr. I am a proud alcoholic, Let's get some breakfast, I am hungry as fuck,"

"Again with the swearing," Jaxon shook his head as he checked his watch, "Did you skip school today as well?"

"It's Sunday, you idiot," Emily snorted heading back downstairs, "I'll be waiting in the car, and for Christ's sake put on a shirt."

"What do you mean breakfast? it's already past noon,"

"Hey, slow down! Do they not feed you?" Jaxon said as he watched the little goblin eat frantically after ordering almost the entire menu, "Are you sure you can eat this all?"

"I saw your cheque, so stop being a penny pincher," Emily shoved the entire sandwich in one go and chugged down a whole cup of soda to wash down her food as she let out a burp, "But 10,000$ for your first one, even Grandpa didn't earn that much."

"I just luckily stumbled onto a rich client," Jaxon shrugged, "If you ask me he got away with much less, if it wasn't for me he and his dumb friends would've ended up being gutted by a fish hook."

"I am eating so can you save the nasty for talk later," Emily said with an expression of disgust, "Oh, is the guy from yesterday, the rich one?"

"He looks so dreamy, do you think I can get his number?"

"First of all, he's too old for you, second, he's rich but a backwash town rich so don't get all dreamy about it, if you want to chase rich guys at least maintain some standards and finally if I catch you skipping school and chasing boys, I'll drag your 'boyfriend' in the middle of nowhere and gut him like a fish and frame it on some secret child of the fish hook killer."

"So don't tempt me, I'll seriously, do it."

"You have to be around to do so," Emily murmured as Jaxon squinted his eyes, "What did you say?"

"Nothing, anyway, I have something for you." Picking out a newspaper from her bag and handed it to him, "It's on the front page! It's not the fish hook killer anymore, he's 'The fisherman'"

"What is it?" Jaxon took the local newspaper as he read through it, "Local private detective catches the serial killer known as The fisherman-"

Stopping mid-sentence, Jaxon read through the rest of the paper in a hurry, which provided intricate details of the event that took place, from the story behind Ben Willis and his past killing of his wife and David and how Jaxon stopped him. Although some details were exaggerated, it seemed the writer meant well to the point where it even mentioned his deeds as a heroic one.
