The Phenomenon

As he looked down at his desk, a blank page greeted him, and only his breath and the ticking of a clock accompanied his inner dialogue.

The room only had a soft sunset light illuminating it. The atmosphere ideal for contemplating ideas and losing oneself in introspection.

The room contained no bright or unrestrained colors. The floor, furniture, and trim had the same dark spruce wood; its grains proudly carried years of history.

The walls had two different colors coating their surface. A grey that reminded one of the thawings of clouds or moonlit raindrops, and the deepest, darkest blue you could ever imagine; almost as if it contained the deep pacific ocean and its time-lost purity.

After absent-mindedly gazing at the window, where only the night sky and its endless sea of stars could be seen, he brought the pen down to the small, leather-bound notebook placed on his desk.

The writing sound of ink pen on hand-made paper filled the room for but a moment, as he brought the concept of his thoughts into reality.

He wrote: "If trust could mend like bone, its value would be nonexistent. Likewise, if you look through a broken lens, the perspective is statically suspended. Its purpose greatly diminished."

After the thought was written, memories surged in his mind as he sighed. Gently setting the pen down, he allowed the memories to flow. Like an unrestrained river.

His eyes carried a heavyweight; the kind that left a hollow feeling in one's chest the moment you met its gaze.

"I'm feeling tired. Maybe I should go to bed and sleep off this fatigue of mine." He suggested to himself as he felt his body's reluctance in continuing his writing.

Gently standing up, the light of the sunset lamp fully illuminated him as he gently composed himself out of his previous mood. With it, his facial features became visible.

'As expected... There is still so much left unresolved deep inside my heart.'

His deep-black eyes with grey streaks and spots scattered within gave one the illusion of being pulled into the midnight sky, a sort of gravity that stemmed from charisma rather than literal attraction, that is.

His eyebrows were slim but full, whilst slightly angled down. A soft arc at the edges naturally gave him a resting bitch face. Until he smiles.

His jawline was prominent, gently complementing his heroic yet, approachable look when he smiles. His hair was a deep black, almost as if it were swallowing the wondering light.

His hair was naturally curly; he sported a mid-burst fade with long curls coiled like eastern dragons atop his head, the tails gently hanging over his forehead a bit.

While he stretched at his desk, a soft meow echoed within the room.

He turned to look at his cat, who was silently gazing back at him after the fact.

Walking over, he squatted beside his beloved pet, Solus. A grey-white Maine Coon with a gentle disposition and a knack for laying in the weirdest areas. He affectionately caressed solus with delicate attention, meanwhile the cat reciprocated by purring and rubbing his head against his hand.

Gently standing up, he walked towards his bed while fiddling with a necklace he was wearing, a silver rope-style chain with an obsidian tooth acting as the ornament.

He sat at the edge of his bed, causing it to gently creak as he slowly adjusted the combat boots he was wearing.

He was armed to the teeth. He had clothes that resembled tech-wear, with the outfit completely blacked out. The pockets were filled with medical supplies and hidden weapons, while the outfit itself was reinforced with lightweight armor.

On his bed laid a sheathed weapon, slightly resembling a Saber or a Katana. The Sheathed weapon was attached to a compact backpack.

He slowly secured the backpack to his body, the clicking of straps and the rustling of cloths ensued thereafter.

After double-checking everything, he laid down on the bed.

While staring at the ceiling, he slowly started to doze off.

Eventually the warmth of sleep, and rest embraced his consciousness.

...

The way of the world changed after the return of an Earthling.

Unlike the silent Displacements of the departing, they returned in a flash of lightning. The explosion raged against the very fabric of time and space.

The World Government had immediately surrounded the event area.

The Earthling turned out to be a man, but he was on the brink of death. His every breath was a protest to his fleeting life force.

The EMT's that were on sight tried to perform emergency treatment, but they were out of options. The wounds were too severe.

He was draped in cuts and bruises, with many bones fractured or broken. His lungs were punctured while his seven orifices leaked dark red blood.

The largest wound was a hole that began from where his left arm should've been, down to the middle of his chest cavity and even a part of his lower abdomen. It was a miracle that he was still conscious.

Coughing up blood clots, he spoke with difficulty.

"We.. Lone.. Fight.. in peril! Another... World... Doomed.."

He coughed severely. His throat started to rip from the rushing wind as he gasped for air.

"War.. Arm yourselves... Chance.."

The news spread like wildfire.

It seemed that the world had finally received an answer for the Phenomenon that haunted them in their sleep.

Although everything was pure speculation, a fire was starting to burn in their hearts, the one that kind that would bring order to Earth's chaos
