Chapter 26. Work

In the darkness and silence of his cell, Benjamin had begun to feel like he was losing his mind. So when the deep, inhuman voice suddenly sounded in his cell, Benjamin became violently startled. The voice was unlike anything he had ever heard before, sounding as if it came from a massive, monstrous beast.

Desperate for reassurance, he turned to look at the metal gate that rattled not long ago.

"What are you looking at? '' said a tall-bulky creature standing on his two paws. "Get yourself up!" His voice was so deep, Benjamin felt the ground beneath him vibrating. He didn't know whether to call him a man or an animal. His legs looked like a lion and his top half looked human with the exception of his wolf-like face.

Benjamin got up from the bed and noticed the girl did wear his clothes after all. She was already standing up with her face looking at the ground trying not to look at the creatures in front of her.

But the slave master saw something he didn't see yesterday, he saw the girl taking her clothes off but instead, the skinny looking boy was the one standing in front of him with just shorts. "What happened to your clothes?" He asked Benjamin. " You only get one from the laundry a month."

" B,b,but– but, it was my own clothes, you haven't given me one yet." Benjamin was not aware he was stammering. "Can you give me something to wear?" The slave master wasn't going to give them clothes but from what they were going to do, he have to lower his pride and give them something to wear at least to help them with the heat.

" Bring them a new set of clothes" He ordered. "Just like that, two sets of the same creature appeared from his back.

" But it is the boy that needs clothes…" Before the gaurd could finish, his master stabbed his throat with his claw-like fingers . The follower bled until slowly he was falling to the ground but the other held him straight.

"Don't question my decisions"

He said glaring at the two slaves, in away telling them not to get on his bad side.

Benjamin has been staring at the animalistic figure and totally forgotten about the girl that stood beside him. Turning around, their eyes locked. Benjamin got time to stare at them, her eyes were pure white making her blue eyes stand out. But the more he continued to look at her in the eyes, he saw the pain that was exuding from her eyes.

It wasn't long then the guards brought them two gray-white clothes. The first was robe, almost similar to the ones people used to wear in ancient earth History.

Ben was watching until they threw it to hit the girl's face. The next one was really short Unlike the robe. It was made in a way the wearer would have to wrap it around his waist. Like a hoop skirt.

The two were standing there silent while staring at the clothes in their hands. Benjamin didn't know how to tell the creatures that he needed space to change, but the way they were looking at them he could tell they wouldn't leave their sight.

The red haired girl didn't bother changing, since she was already wearing something Better. It was a long robe and it reached her knees. So it was okay for her unlike Benjamin, who covered his waste with the skirt.

Benjamin felt even more naked, his upper body was bare, and the skirt felt itchy. He regretted helping the girl the other night, but it was too late.

They motioned for them to get outside the cell, It was then he noticed how terrible his situation had become. Because of the place there were sleeping he couldn't distinguish between the day and night but now looking at the corridor, it almost looked like it didn't have an end, was filled with metal cages, the ground metal bars had turned brownish. The floor was plastered with something Benjamin didn't know of. It was black.

"Move!!" They ordered. Even though they hadn't chained Benjamin he still felt restricted just walking between two standing-wolves, and at their heights, he couldn't see his roommate walking behind the creature.

They walked quite some time, as they walked Benjamin constantly looked, left and right trying to find at least a hole or anything that he could escape through when the time comes.

But all he could see was cells just like the one he was in only that it was empty. He lost count of the many small rooms they passed.

"Stand!" The slave master ordered.

He went forward and opened a small door on the ceiling. Benjamin would have never thought a door could be hiding there.

"Climb!" The creature said. "Both of you!"

At first Ben thought maybe he was removing something from there but as he looked he realized they were the ones going to climb that.

The metals rattled as the creature pulled a ladder. The ladder looked gray-red and smelled incredibly awful. There were samples of human skins on the handles and before the girl could scream, the slave drivers pushed them forward.

"Climb!!".

The power that exploded within his voice was enough to get the two humans attached to the ladder like bugs. When Benjamin put his hands on the metal handle, his heart was aching with fear.

"We don't have all day, the sun is already waiting for you" One of the guards yelled at them.

Benjamin gulped audibly. "Did he just say the sun?" He looked down and noticed his clothes only covered his waist. With a deep breath, he pushed himself forward and slipped out of the final bar that had held him captive. Raising his head, he gasped in amazement at what he saw. They had apparently landed in an open arena that stretched out before him.

The place resembled a large stadium, with seating on all sides that stretched across the field. The cheer of what appeared to be a large and boisterous crowd overwhelmed the arena. The place was vast, and Benjamin tried in vain to comprehend the size of it all.

There was only one thought running through Benjamin's mind: "Just what are they planning to do to us?"
