Chapter 79: Mina?

Zane did not know that Ian had already questioned the girl he had locked up about his father. He intentionally did not bring it up because he knew that his friend was embarrassed by the man. It had even gotten to the point where he no longer allowed anyone to address him as young Mr. Walsh; he was simply CEO Zane.

Ian could tell by the look on his friend's face, that he was deeply concerned about the matter, and would probably not take no for an answer. So, he decided to let Zane act as he wished. Then he would let him review the results of the polygraph test. Sometimes, a person had to be allowed to vent before they could accept an outcome, and that is how Ian felt about he present situation regarding Zane's father.

Besides, he may have agreed to Zane's request, but Ian also made sure to remind his friend that the girl seemed to be an innocent party, and she did not lie about who she was. He also told Zane to be rational, asking him not to hurt the girl if her answers were unsatisfactory. Ian had never known his friend to be violent against women, but the man hated his father so much, anything was possible.

Wordlessly, Zane stood up and walked out of the study. He was about to head toward the bookshelf when he saw Luna standing in front of a guest bedroom. He headed for the door and before Luna could stop him from opening it, Ian had already placed his hand on her shoulder and motioned his head in the negative. Luna did not understand why Ian was allowing Zane to talk to Mina, it was not in their original plan. Trusting her brother to use proper judgement, Luna walked away and went to wait in her brother's study. She knew Zane well, and he probably just wanted to see Mina for himself. Luna hoped to be able to wash her own hands of the matter quickly.

----

When Zane opened the door, his eyes bulged, and he gasped audibly.

"Mina?" He said as a question, and the girl looked up in surprise.

"Do… Do I know you sir?" She asked. To Zane, Mina did not look like a prisoner. She was thinner than he imagined, but she was captivatingly beautiful. Her photo did her no justice at all.

"Why is it you?" Zane asked, and Mina's face bunched in confusion. She had no reason not to trust the man before her, and he, unlike President Lee or Miss Luna seemed to have real human emotions. She smiled a sweet and innocent smile, then apologized to Zane for not recognizing him.

Zane, who had been looking for Mina, thinking he would discover Ian's secret girlfriend, did not expect to find her as a prisoner. His face fell a little and Mina mistook it as him being hurt by her saying that she did not know who he was.

"I'm sorry, I'm bad with faces," Mina lied. She had an exceptional memory when she cared enough about a person to pay attention. "Did we go to school together?" She asked. Zane smirked. He knew Mina was not even twenty-three yet, he wondered what kind of flattery she was trying to use on him, a man of twenty-seven years.

"You don't know me, "Zane finally said.

Currently, Zane did not feel that the woman before him had any connection to his father. If that man had gotten his hands on a woman like Mina, he would have paraded her around Pan Country like a trophy, not sent her into the bed of his enemy. The questions he wanted to ask Mina were now irrelevant at best and thus he decided to leave it alone.

Ian, who had not entered the room immediately, heard some of the interaction between the two. It seemed to him as if Zane knew Mina and it made him feel a little jealous. Ian stepped behind his friend and spoke coldly.

"So, you two know each other?" Zane picked up on the hint of bitterness in his friend's voice, but Mina just assumed that President Lee did not want anyone talking to her. She cast her eyes toward the ground and did not speak. Ian took the action as a sign of guilt. As for Zane, he was relishing in his friend's discomfort. After all, he was still mad at the man.

"I know her well," he answered. Mina looked up at Zane and she scrutinized his face. Did she know him?

Taking a closer look, Mina could see that the man had all the makings of a typical playboy. His black hair was neatly combed, and he was dressed in a fitted, dark purple dress shirt which complimented his light grey dress pants. He wore a ring on his thumb and a matching clip on his tie. Even the metal buckle of his belt screamed 'Look here!' Mina did not look though. Zane was extremely handsome, and she could tell that his body was very muscular, but she did not like the flashy type. In her opinion, those types of men were often empty in the head.

Feeling as though Mina had been looking at Zane for too long, Ian loudly cleared his throat. Zane was thoroughly amused. This was the first time he had seen Ian behave that way. He took a few steps towards Mina and extended his hand to shake hers. She did not reject his handshake and she even smiled at him as he introduced himself.

"Don't worry Miss Mina, you do not know me. I recently read your resume, and if it is real, you are very impressive. Please call me Zane," he said, and Mina could not help her cheeks from turning red. Usually, men this handsome relied on their looks to carry a conversation. Zane however, seemed to have a way with his words. Who was a 'Miss' in this room?

Ian was even more vexed than before, he thought that Mina found Zane attractive and he felt as if he could not compete. Ian's relationship with Mina went from zero to one hundred then from one hundred to negative one hundred in just one night. If Zane seriously wanted Mina, he felt as if he would have no right to stop him. Out of all the men in the country, Zane was probably one of the few that would not mind that Mina was no longer whole, but it did not mean Ian would not care about it.
