CHAPTER 1

"Q?", I raised my eyebrows at Reyna.

I had never heard of the place.

"Wait, you mean the gay club?", Tris inquired.

Rey rolled her eyes dramatically.

"Queer bar, boys. Q for queer."

She grinned.

"Don't worry. No one's gonna kick your bisexual ass out."

Tristan did a silent hurray and bit into a muffin.

Reyna looked pointedly at me. "Don't tell us you have to work again."

Saturdays at Derry's were a bit slow,

especially this early in the morning,

so we had the cafe to ourselves.

Summer break was only halfway through, and night school wouldn't start for another week;

so I had to  think up another way to avoid this planned outing.

I fiddled with my warm cup. The dark rich aroma wafted up to my nose.

"It's not that." Tris looked up from Lee's laptop.

"What then? Afraid one of your students will be there?"

Reyna scoffed.

"Who cares if anyone sees you? You need exposure."

"You guys, I'm perfectly fine."

This whole conversation was heading down an unpleasantly familiar road.

"No, you're not", Lee wagged his finger at me.

The glare from his laptop screen reflected on his square glasses.

"Reyna has a point. You've been single for way too long." I sighed tiredly.

This topic again.

"They're right, you know," Tris seconded.

"I'm just not ready for a relationship right now", I stated my usual answer.

My friends meant the best, but they could be so imposing at times.

Like now.

Tris left his seat planted himself in my lap, straddling me.

"Come on, Professor. Just this once." I glanced quickly around.

The café was empty, but that didn't stop me from panicking.

"Tris, get off. We're in public."

He fixed me with a cool stare with his heterochromatic eyes, grinning mischievously.

"Not until you agree to come with us."

I half imagined footsteps coming from the kitchen.

Lee paused from his troubleshooting and chuckled at Tristan's antics.

"Okay. Alright. I'll go. Now would you please get off me."

Reyna giggled at my quivering tone.

I wanted to shake them both.

When he acted like this it became even more difficult to imagine Tris as a quiet introvert, despite the countless stories they had shared with me.

Tris clicked his tongue and leaned closer to my face.

"How about a kiss first?", he purred like the Cheshire cat tattooed on his wrist.
