As the first rays of dawn illuminated the sleepy town, Lei Feng worked diligently to load the cart with the supplies they would need for their journey. Zhang Wei paused, considering Lei Feng's words carefully before responding.

"I understand your apprehension, Lei Feng, but Xiao Mei is more capable than you might think," he replied, his tone confident. "Besides, she's not just coming along for the ride. She's part of our team, and her skills will be invaluable to us."

Lei Feng nodded, though his doubts lingered.

"I hope you're right, Zhang Wei," he said with a sigh. "I just worry that bringing her along might end up being more of a liability than an asset."

Zhang Wei placed a reassuring hand on Lei Feng's shoulder, offering him a reassuring smile.

"Jie, I apologize for not informing you sooner," he began, his voice steady as he addressed his friend's concerns. "The decision was made hastily, and I understand if you're upset. But Mei forced my hands on this matter. Fairly enough, I don't want her to be entangled."

Li Jie's expression softened slightly, though his frustration still lingered.

"It's not that I'm upset about Sister Mei joining you," he admitted with a sigh. "It's just... I wanted to come along too. I don't want to be left behind while you and the others head off into danger."

Zhang Wei nodded sympathetically, understanding Li Jie's desire to be part of the mission.

"I know, Jie. And believe me, if it were up to me, you would be joining us," he replied sincerely. "But the plan has been set, and we need someone reliable to stay behind and wait for the Mongol reinforcements. That's where you come in."
