Prologue

Strange noises were coming from everywhere. The monster's eyes glowed bright as the sun, yet it was dark as night. Momma kept trying to fight the monster off, and all I could do was sit there, petrified. Why can't I make myself useful, just this once? 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥'𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘔𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢.

That made me.. more terrified. I couldn't move, no matter how hard I tried, but I couldn't just let the monster kill my mom! Momma let out a painful groan as the monster's huge red power that it was fighting her with pushed her back a few feet, her back claws digging into the ground as her paws pushed back the dirt. She growled in anger, pushing against the monster's power with fear and hatred in her eyes.

Momma always had this cool magic.

She could teleport me onto a tree, if she wanted to! She could teleport prey right to us, or she would transport us to a beach! She could do anything! This blue fire stuff would come out of her paws, she could even throw a large rock into the sunset with it. I tried to force myself to move again, but nothing. My eyes were locked on my mother.

She shrieked, scrolling through her list of entities to teleport, but she just picked a random one and opened a portal a few feet away from me and an orange kitten with black spots came tumbling out.

A few seconds later, she opened another portal and used the last bit of her strength to send me and the orange kitten flying in. "Mom!" I yelled. It was then that I was able to regain my composure from the petrified shock that had frozen me. My claws tried to swipe at the monster as I flew past. It was like everything was happening in slow motion.

The look on Momma's face was painful.

She had an expression as if she would never see me again. Could this be true? Would I never see her again? And where was she sending me? My fur brushed against the calico kitten's coat. Just before the darkness came, Momma's magic stopped altogether and she was struck by the black ink of the monster, her eyes turning ghost white. "𝘕𝘰!" I screamed.

Out of book: Ok so this was definitely confusing but here’s something to clear some of it up (this isn’t really a spoiler btw.) Thing to note: The time in the book is about about the 1890’s so there are no cars, only horse carriages. Oreo’s mother has the magic to move objects and push them away (looks like blue sparkly stuff on her paws) she can teleport entities, such as herself and her son, and other random living things from around the galaxy. Her last power is that she can open up portals, from literally anywhere. So when this big monster she accidentally spawned started attacking her, she used her object powers to try to push it away into a portal but it was too strong. She knew when the monster got her, it would get Oreo too, so she had to send him somewhere else. She would not have time to decide where. She wanted someone to accompany him to keep him safe so she scrolled through her list of entities and picked a random one (which was the orange and black kitten.) she sent them both into the portal just before she was struck. Hope this helps :)
