War Guard

The second dual book mage in history, an outcast. Wielding the book of wrath comes with great power but at a price. Rage is his enemy, yet his greatest strength... P.S.: This is my first book so please bear with me through the grammatical errors and rough beginning, I promise to get better and the story gets better. Thanks

Chapter Five

"Hello Casto", said a very strange voice.

I frantically turn left to right but everything was still shrouded in darkness.

"Who's there and how do you know my name?", I asked into the darkness.

"You ask who I am when it was you that entered my domain", The voice replied and I still wasn't getting a hint of where it's coming from, it was everywhere.

"Ok so I guess you are the mage that used to….".

"Used to own the book? Boy I still control this power!!!, my name is Strig and you cannot even begin to understand how much time I put into developing this book, so I already know what you and Rickhel want and it will not happen", He replied clearly provoked.

"I'm sorry, i can see that you're clearly angry but please hear me out", I pleaded.

I told him my story from what i could remember of my childhood and everything that has happened recently, but what really fasinated him was the fact that i was the one that would wield the power of the book of wrath.

"Wow, you just made my anger look meaningless, ok I'll help on the condition that you help me find out the war guard that betrayed my crew and got us killed and is still alive and well in our beloved capital", He requested and i was already smiling even before he finished because i got the idea that helping him look for the betrayer may also lead me to who trashed our house.

"You have a deal", i replied grinning like i'd just won the lottery.

Then as quickly as it happened the darkness was gone and everything was back to normal.

"Strig! Strig!", I yelled because i had no clue how i was going to reach him again.

"I didnt go anywhere and you dont have to be so loud", I almost threw the book away at the sound of the voice coming out from it.

"Don't scare me like that you will give a young man a heart attack", I said still recovering from the shock of everything.

I forgot that i was back in the real world, until i heard Rickel's voice.

"So did anything happen?", He asked.

"Yeah something happen, so….".

"Don't tell him anything i dont trust him and its not just because he owes money, just tell him i agreed to help but that i still hate his guts", String interupted me mid speech.

"Did you hear anything just now", I asked Rickhel'.

"Nope, am I supposed to?", He asked back.

"He agreed to help, but he still hates your guts", I replied complying with what Strig said.

"I can live with that, lets head back in and have dinner we can test out how it works tomorrow", Rickhel said walking back into the house.

"Okay I'm right behind you, I'm starving", I replied.

"Okay so why did he not hear you when you told me to not say anything", I asked Strig.

"I forgot to tell you, i can only talk to you and so it turns out you are the only one that can hear me", He answered.

I nodded my head in agreement with what he said, because if he could talk to anybody he would have been able to talk to Rickhel directly.

"Do I have to always carry this book", I asked Rickhel.

"Now just visualize it sent away and in a place you can easily access, it sounds hard but that's the most basic magic there is", he replied.

"Okay ", I said. I closed my eyes and tried visualisation like he said, what I could see was the dark void I just saw momenta ago, I didn't even feel it I thought nothing happened. I opened my eyes and the book was gone.

'Strig', I called with my mind.

"I can still here you don't worry", Strig replied.

I officially just perform my first act of magic, it was extraordinary.

I went inside to go put something in my stomach because it felt there was a war happening in there.

I walked toward the dinning hall and to my suprise there was nobody there.

"Rickhel!, Haz!", I call out not liking the joke that is being played on my stomach.

"Rickhel's in the kitchen and Haz just left", I turn around to put a face to the sweet voice that I just heard.

I turn around to see a very beautiful girl sitting in one of the many chairs that surrounded the dining table, she was around my age with blonde hair matching Rickhel's and that unsmiling face I almost forgot that i just got an information.

"Wait! did you say Haz left? where did he go to?", I asked her as i returned to my senses.

"And how am i supposed to have that information? i don't know you people", she replied not even looking at my face.

I left and walked into the kitchen to ask Rickhel about Haz's whereabouts.

"Where is he?", I asked stomping into the room.

"He left to go investigate about the matter at hand, he said he had a few leads he wanted to follow up", He replied.

"He couldn't wait till morning or even say goodbye before leaviing?".

"I told him all that and he still insisted on leaving this night, he only asked me to take care of you and train you well, that he will be back soon", He replied and i know Haz those were words he would say.

"Okay, but he better be safe or I'm gonna kill him if he dies", I said. Rickhel just gave me a nod that showed that he fully agreed with me.

I helped him to carry some of the food into the dining area, I was suprised that i couldnt find the beautifully rude girl that was there a second ago.

"There was a girl sitting there a minute ago", I said pointing at the chair i saw her in.

"That was Axy my niece, she must have come back from hanging out with her friends, she can be creepy like that and she can also get information like she's a ghost sometimes, but i bet you'd like her she's cool", He replied describing her with a smile on his face. He must really love his niece.

We sat down just the two of us and finally i can stop this war in my belly.
