Chapter 9 – A Boaring Fight

Wild Boar – Lv. 7

As I analyzed the boar for the twentieth time, I readied the surprise I had prepared. Activating Storage Vision, I withdrew the largest rocks I had stored and dropped them towards the boar's head. The impact from the first two large rocks caused the greatest damage. The beast reacted by jumping backwards, causing the rest of my rocks to miss.

Skill Acquired: Rock Throw Lv. 1

I decided that hanging from a tree and throwing rocks was still my safest decision at level 1. Surprisingly, the new skill was adding strength and accuracy to the rock projectile, even when I was just dropping it onto the boar's head. By reaching my arm down towards the ground, I was able to collect most of the large rocks back into Storage Vision. The level 1 skill would allow use up to 10 feet away from my reach. What I did not expect was my other arm to slip off the tree branch I was hanging off. Those slippery pine needles! I fell to the ground just as the boar had regained its senses.

This was bad! I felt a long tusk shove into my chest. I closed my eyes, waiting for the pain. I was pinned under a level 7 beast. I was but a level 7 immigrant human with no experience in battle. I waited a few seconds, but still felt nothing. I looked down at the place where the tusk was pushed against my chest. My shirt was torn, but there was no blood. In fact, it did not look like the boar had even broken my skin. Looking downward, I could see that the creature was trying to bite my leg as well. Again, it could not even get through my skin. What is going on? When did I get so strong?

I decided to postpone the questions and withdrew my makeshift spear. I swiftly drove the weapon through the beast's right eye and into its brain. The boar instantly died and fell in front of me. This was confirmed when I was able to deposit the entire corpse into Storage Vision. Victory!

Shaking off the shock of everything, I rushed into the safety of the shack. Getting inside and closing the door, I laid down on the bed and began examining all the updates. I determined that every level up would produce an increase of 2 to every stat except Charisma. That would mean a level 7 Boar, if it started with 10 in each stat like I did, would have 24 in each stat. No wonder it couldn't harm me! My Constitution was 47 during that "battle". Can I call it a battle? Even my 36 Strength would have been overpowered for a level 7 boar. That is why it didn't stand a chance against my spear strike, even though I felt like I was just poking it with a stick. My World Transfer Package that upgraded my stats gave me a massive boost right from the beginning! I guess I didn't have much reason to be afraid of the wild boar.

I examined the Title I acquired:

Underdog – Increases Strength stat by 25% when fighting against an opponent at a higher level

Now that should be useful. Being at a lower level will be an advantage for me. Now for the Vision Master perks. Does it really give me something at every level? Levels 2 and 3 gave me new skills in each while Level 4 gave me a permanent increase to Mental and Intelligence. I can imagine how useful 10% boost will be when the numbers are even higher!

I spent the next hour until sundown testing my two new skills. Flame Vision was not a flamethrower. I went outside to test it. It was more of a beam of heat that could ignite everything until it reaches its destination. After accidentally setting a tree on fire, I stopped using the skill and quickly extinguished the dangerous flame. This was not the right place to test flames!

Barrier Vision was both incredibly useful and incredibly difficult to master. I managed to place a barrier in front of me as a shield. This would only expend 8 mana to set up and then another 10 mana per minute to maintain. If I wanted my barrier to completely encircle me, the cost would be more than double, but I successfully managed to create it. As soon as I tried using the barrier in a non-conventional way, it would fight against me and fail. This was especially the case when I tried to create platforms in the sky. The integrity of the barrier would only hold for half a second before it would collapse. Perhaps this would get easier if I leveled up Barrier Vision?
