Combat Trial (1)

Every time Layla jumped down from the trees, she would eliminate 1–7 recruits, rapidly bringing down the number of recruits within the trial.

It was 2 in the morning, and Layla sat on a tree branch that was hundreds of feet in the air with her back resting against the trunk of the tree, glancing at the counterfeited moon that shone upon this fabricated world.

Layla held one of the shadow bottles that contained the blood of the vampires she killed a few days ago and took a sip.

The taste of the blood gave her euphoria, which made her frown, as normal vampire blood should not taste this good.

Searching through the memories of the owner of the blood, she found out exactly why this blood tasted so good.

'Tch, so it was a test, but she hasn't sent out someone to capture or take me back.' Layla thought, as she felt annoyance at what Camilla did.

The 500 vampires that went with Layla that day weren't normal vampires but pre-demons, meaning that they weren't considered demons but on the verge of becoming one. The only reason why they weren't already demons was that Camilla gave them a drop of her blood, converting their own blood into Camilla's, giving them a longer time before they demonized.

'She also must've assumed that I would escape, so the second reason for doing this was so that I would have enough of her blood to survive on, since drinking the blood of a lower rank vampire doesn't give me much nutrition.' Layla thought, smiling slightly. 'I guess I have no choice but to be glad that she did it, but once again I'm glad she did something for me when I hate her to the point I want to kill her.'

Layla continued drinking the blood until it was empty and dispelled it, while acting like she had caught an etheric tool, which gave the shadows the shape of a bottle.

Layla has already eliminated 110 recruits during the last 19 hours, as the surviving recruits started to become smarter, causing fewer and fewer recruits to be eliminated per hour.

'If I hunt during the night, it'll be easier as they are fast asleep, with the novice recruits letting their guard down without thinking of the consequences.' Ayla stood up from the tree branch she was on and jumped down from branch to branch until she was roughly 10 to 15 feet above the snow-covered ground.

Layla quietly jumped through the trees, making sure not to make any noise, as she scouted for recruits to eliminate with only her combat knife and throwing knives strapped around her thighs, as the hand cannons and bombs would be too noisy.

Layla continued to jump from tree to tree, and it didn't take that long to find a group of eight recruits who Layla assumed must've teamed up as they were sleeping together, peacefully.

Oh wait, never mind, the recruit on the far left opened his eyes and checked the breathing rhythm to ensure they were asleep. After confirming they were still asleep, the man slowly removed his blanket and slowly moved towards the closest recruit, pulling a knife out from inside his boot. His heartbeat quickly hastened, afraid they would wake up at any sudden sound.

The only sound that could be heard was the faint humming sound of an etheric heater that one of the recruits bought and hid. Beads of cold sweat slowly made their way down his back, sending chills throughout his body.

Crouching next to the closest recruit, he moved the blade up to her neck and slid it across her throat, but before he could reach halfway with his slicing, he felt a sharp knife pierce through the base of his neck.

The golden barrier enveloped him, teleporting him out of the combat trial and disqualifying him before he could react.

'Men like him who would betray their comrades for kill points are the ones who don't deserve to become slayers. I guess that is the same for me though, considering who I am now.' Layla picked up the throwing knife from the ground where the man had once lain.

She slit the throats of the remaining 7 recruits who were enveloped by a golden light and taken out of the combat trial, sleeping as they were ignorant of the fact they were disqualified without having a chance at stopping it.

Layla leaped onto the tree branch and began jumping through the trees in search of more prey for her to kill.
