Encountering Lily Again Part 2

"What does she want?" Blake asked Hecate. He plans to pack his bag and escape through the window.

"I don't know. But I'm certain that she does not have any bad intentions," Hecate said with a shrug.

"How do you know when people are good or bad?" Blake asked with raised eyebrows. Even at the hotel, Hecate knew the hotel manager came for trouble without seeing him.

It made Blake feel uneasy, thinking she can read minds.

"Everybody has a soul. Your physical body could lie, but your soul is always honest. Except you know how to manipulate your soul. Since we are connected, anybody who has bad intentions towards you, has their soul appear red in my eyes. While the ones with good intentions have their souls appear green. The people who are indifferent towards you or do not know you, have their souls appear as white in my eyes," Hecate said and sat on the bed.

"How does Scarlett's soul appear?" Blake asked. Scarlett's intention always bewildered him.

"She's—"

A knock interrupted Hecate. Blake inhaled deeply before walking to the door.

He opened the door and put on a smile.

"Hello, who are you looking for?" Blake asked like a polite receptionist.

"I just spoke with you now," Lily said with a frown.

"Oh! I was probably sleepwalking. So, how may I help you?" Blake asked, still wearing his fake smile.

Lily was about to answer when an angry, melodious voice interrupted her. "Is that how you talk to your Principal? Because you got a beautiful house and a hot landlady?"

Scarlett came from behind Lily, pushed him aside, and walked into the house as if it belonged to her. She sat on the couch and said, "Come in, guys."

'She is now performing the role of a host in my house,' Blake thought while shaking his head weakly. He was so focused on Lily that he missed Scarlett's presence.

However, a person's presence made him feel alert and threatened. It was Brad. He walked from behind a pillar. Blake hasn't gotten used to the house, so he missed the hidden corner.

"Why are you together?" Blake asked.

"Lily is my friend. So, when she was distressed and couldn't take you with her to leave the train, she asked me to take care of you. It's because of you, she managed to assassinate and escape the bigger Rothschild," Scarlett said as she crossed her leg on the couch.

"So, our meeting on the train was planned by her?" Blake asked.

"Or else, why would I take care of a stranger?" Scarlett answered with a question. This made Blake's mouth twist funnily. He thought his charms were what made Scarlett take him in. He just found out that he was overthinking and partially delusional.

Brad was about to walk past Blake and enter his house. This brought back Blake's attention to him.

"I was talking about him previously," Blake pointed at Brad and blocked his way.

"He's my elder brother, Brad York," the silent Lily said, as she sat beside Scarlett.

Blake stared at Brad intently for a while before finally moving aside to let him in. As Brad entered the sitting room, Blake couldn't help but notice the two long couches and two short couches that decorated the space. He remembered sleeping on one of the long couches previously.

"I just packed in yesterday, that's why I have nothing to offer. So, what do you all want?" Blake asked warily. Their presence is alarming.

"I apologized for my previous action, and thank you for saving my sister. I want you to join the York family," Brad said coldly, but his statement made Blake squint his eyes. It resounded with the dark demon's dying words.

"Brad!" Lily yelled at Brad.

"Sorry about his directness. He just wants to know if you're interested in joining the York family. We will provide you with the resources to level up, while you will work for us. You will have your freedom while you work," Lily said calmly.

"Crystal cores?" Blake asked.

"Yes," Lily replied lightly.

The offer was enticing, but Blake politely turned it down. "Thank you, but no, thank you."

He couldn't expose the secret that he can absorb more than twenty cores to level up. Maybe they might dissect him. Although a hundred crystal cores are difficult to achieve, the benefit is worth it.

"Okay, Brad. Off you go. He's not interested," Lily pushed Brad until he was outside the door, and she slammed it in his face.

"Hi, how are you doing?" Lily sat down with a happy smile plastered on her face.

"I'm doing great with the reputation of a devil. I've been blacklisted by the city," Blake said calmly.

"Scarlett, I thought I paid you to take care of him?" Lily asked with a pout.

Blake threw Lily a strange glance. The ruthless wolf became a playful puppy. The transformation is too much.

"I had no control over the city. Jasper has all the control. But I'm working on his new ID card." Scarlett sighed depressingly, which made the room fall into a pin-drop silence.

"Okay girls, why did you interrupt my sleep," Blake asked when they became quiet.

"Hey Blake, Ella told us that you are a good scout. Is that true?" Lily said with a heart-warming smile.

"A fat lie," Blake blurted with a straight face.

"Stop lying. So, we have a mission to hunt an elemental beast. We are missing just one person," Lily said calmly.

"Then go get the person. I'm offline. I need a break. Moreover, I'm an Awaken, not an elemental transcendent," Blake replied quickly.

"There is no better person in this third-grade city. The payment is two crystal cores." Lily tempted Blake, but he kept a straight face. Scarlett must have told Lily about his need for crystal cores.

All this while, Scarlett has been giving Blake weird glances. It made him uncomfortable.

"Three cores," Lily gritted her teeth and increased the price.

'If the dark demon is worth only two cores, I wonder if it's a titan they want to kill,' Blake thought but refrained from mistakenly blurting his thoughts.

"Sucker!" Lily cursed and bounced out of the room.

"I think you should leave with her," Blake said, and walked to the door, planning to usher her out.

"My necklace," Scarlett suddenly asked.

The two words made Blake freeze for a moment before he regained his senses.

He bent slightly, placed one hand on the door frame, and crossed his legs. He feigned nonchalance.

"What necklace?" Blake put on his most unconcerned attitude.

"The one on the wine shelf," Scarlett said coldly.

"Maybe it fell on the ground or behind the couch." Blake waved his hand.

"You were the last to leave my house, and my necklace suddenly grew legs and followed you. Nobody has been to my house since you left," Scarlett spoke through her gritted teeth.

"Perhaps—"

Boom! A bolt of scarlet lightning smashed the bulb above Blake, making him jump to the side for cover.

When he raised his head, he saw Scarlett with a darkened face, rapid heaving chest, and lightning snakes dancing around her arms.

'Damn! Anytime Lily appears, Scarlett's judgment apocalypse is coming my way,' Blake thought, at the same time thinking of the appropriate answer. He couldn't even remember where he threw the damn necklace.

"Where…is…my…necklace?" Scarlett articulated.
