Woman in Black

"Why are you running~" In the darkness a fat man ran as fast as he could, "Don't you want to play with me?" A seductive female called out of the darkness as if trying to entice the man to follow her.

"Demon! I-I am Lord Fidritious! The leader of the Grand Dutchy of Brunhild! If you kill me your death is all but assured!" Yelling into the darkness almost randomly the man tried to run as a fog slowly enveloped him.

"But Lord~" Her seductive tone hid a dense killing intent, "I simply want to play with you... You did the same playing with all those girls, so why not play with me~? You will hurt my feelings Hmph~" The woman made a sound like she was a child pouting.

Tripping as he ran, the fat man fell face-first into the stone road. "You BItch!" His voice squeaked as if he was a prepubescent child.

As he looked around in the darkness desperately looking for an escape a voice came from behind him. "Aww~ Are you looking for me~?" Turning around he saw a beautiful woman who smiled seductively at him.

Seeing the smile he desperately scrambled to his feet as he tried to run away. He didn't care in which way he went in the white fog, all he wanted was an escape. The woman simply stood still as she watched him run. "HeLP!" His horse voice sounded as he called desperately for anyone to hear him. While running in the fog he eventually saw a light.

"Oh~ Is that your escape~?"

"HELP! HELP ME!" He desperately ran to the door and began banging on it. He tried to pull, but the door didn't budge. No matter how much he slammed his hands on the door and yelled no movement could be seen from inside. The handle seemed to be unmovable as if it was locked into place.

He slammed his meaty fists on the glass as he tried to break his way in, unfortunately, a voice behind him wasn't happy, "You shouldn't disturb the poor neighbors. After all, they seem to be sleeping."

As her voice reached his ears a sharp pain pierced his neck as his desperate calling turned into choking as the blood spilled out of his mouth. The woman only pushed him aside as she stood before the door completely ignoring the man she had killed. "Glass? So some nobility, but aren't I in the Deniton Neighborhood? I thought I knew this place well, so why don't I recognize this place?"

As she spoke she peered into the door as she waited. It was only after ten minutes passed that she frowned and spoke to herself, "A library? Why isn't there anyone who is coming to check? The garbage made some pretty loud sound didn't it?" As she frowned she reached for the immovable door handle.

As she placed her hand on it she quickly noticed that the door handle moved easily. She played with the handle turning it several times before deciding something. After a deep breath, she pushed the door open.

Instead of the unstoppable wall that the man banged and did everything to open, instead the door easily opened as a bell rang. The woman quickly let the door go as she jumped back outside. Only after a minute did she push the door back open and walk in.

"What a strange library..." As she looked around she looked for good places to hide she noticed everything was more open with only a few short shelves that allowed one's head to look over them easily.

As she thought of what a weird place this was she heard a voice of a young man, "Hello? Sorry it took me a while to come, I was wrapped up in making a garden and it took me a while..."

Hiding behind a bookshelf the woman did her best to not be seen. The young man who had just come down some stairs looked around before walking directly to where the woman was. She quickly tried to avoid him as she dashed around in a way that should have made her impossible to be seen.

The young man stopped nearby with a confused look making her believe it had worked. Just as she was thinking of what to do to escape unseen the young man suddenly appeared before her bending down to be level with her eyes and spoke, "What are you doing?... Am I really that scary?"

Just as he finished his sentence her hand had already moved as her dagger stabbed at his throat. Just as the dagger seemed to reach his throat his hand suddenly appeared on her wrist stopping her from attacking him.

Seeing this she quickly tried to pull away to which the man simply let her go allowing her to quickly move back and run to the door. The young man simply stood up and watched her as she grabbed the door handle. Unfortunately, the door that could open easily suddenly became a wall just as she had seen happen with the garbage.

As she realized she couldn't escape she no longer bent down and instead stood up and struck a seductive pose. "Oh~ you really don't want me to leave that badely~?"

The young man had his eyes flicker with lust for a moment before it disappeared completely letting him look at her blankly for a few more seconds before he spoke with an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that, the door won't let you through for your protection you see."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "You get super dizzy by going through a spatial passageway multiple times within the hour. I hope you can understand." As he finished his sentence he bowed to the girl as if he was showing her his most sincere apologies.

Frowning the woman could only straighten herself as she waited wondering what to do. She opened her mouth several times wanting to say something, but nothing came out. The young man eventually looked up as he spoke with a smile, "You don't need to be so afraid, I don't bite." He paused for a moment before putting his hand onto his chest and speaking, "My name is Alex. How about you?"

"...You can call me Cynthia..."

"Cynthia? Why don't we sit?" He pointed to a few chairs around a small table, "It kind of feels like I am hounding you..."

As he started walking to the nearby chairs Cynthia spoke up, "First why don't you tell me the real reason why you won't let me leave?"

Pausing, Alex sighed as he looked back at Cynthia, "I said the truth in a way you could understand... If I explain the reason in a more complicated way it might as well be magic to you..."

Cynthia frowned as she looked annoyed, "Don't look down on me." Her words came out with venom as if she would kill everyone who had offended her.

*sigh* "Well first we have the basic energy particles in the air that aren't necessary for life but can nourish it if present. Next, we think about the control of the energy through specific techniques that help normal people control it, and then we change the biology of the person to more easily control the energy. After the person integrates it in a way and uses the energy in a specific pattern, the energy can be used to influence the space to create a wormhole or as I said, a spacial passageway.

Now if a normal person like yourself goes through it nothing really happens, but going through it multiple times without the aid of energy nourishing your body as it does on this side, you would need close to a week to recover enough to go through the passageway. Do you understand any of that?"

"Yeah yeah, something energy that nourishes my body and going through the door harms my body so I need this energy to help me out and not make problems. Why don't you just nourish my body and let me leave early?"

"My skill is only beginner and would only nourish your body enough to speed up the process enough to let you leave in half an hour. But now listen to my side, someone who entered my store and is rude and will probably hate me for not letting her leave even if it is for her safety.

Now this person will gain nothing from this experience besides a new person they hate, but if they just even tried to talk to me and listen to me at all, they could come out of this store with something besides just hatred. I can make this come true, but they will never listen to me so even if I help them leave earlier, they will simply blame me for no reason despite my efforts.

In the end, I didn't get a person to talk to and just wasted my time while this person keeps all their misconceptions from the start and nothing is really helped from either side... Do you see? My side of the story? How I view this?"

Cynthia could only grumble as she sat down and spoke, "So you are a magical being with insane powers but the moment you won't even let a girl leave? I even saw that you didn't let that man in and only when I opened the door did it open with ease."

"Man? Did you come in with a man?"

"No, you didn't let him enter."

"Oh, you must be talking about the enchantments that were placed on the door. I didn't even know that there was a man outside. You see if the person wants to move that door they must be a decent person. The weight of the door will be equal to the weight of their sins."

"Then why didn't the door weigh a lot for me? I killed children before."

"I decide what is a sin or not, but you were probably lucky, the children you killed were either bad people or you did it in a way that follows my moral compass."

"Bullshit! I literally killed hundreds of people before! How can killing a person not be a sin!"

"Let's say I killed a man. This man was cruel and hurt a lot of people. Did I sin? Or was I simply passing judgment? I am no god, so I would consider judgment is not my place, I am mearly setting up the meeting."

"How would you know whether the people I killed were evil or not?"

"The mind is a fickle thing. It controls the whole body, yet when the time comes it can make mistakes for so many different reasons. You grow old and forget. But that is when the soul comes in. The soul is separate from the mind, yet connected. While the mind may forget, the sould would never dare to. The soul is what makes up a person. Every soul tells the truth of the matter."

*sigh* "So you claim my soul is what tells you? How can it know if what I did was right or wrong?"

"The world's judgment. You see belief is a powerful thing. If everyone in the world believes eating apples is evil, then if you eat an apple but don't see a problem, then did you do something evil? Still don't confuse this belief with being an only human trait. So long as it has a soul, it has its' own belief so if all rabbits in the world like to eat apples, then they can turn that action of eating an apple into a neutral action instead of an evil action.

That said if you are human you would be more affected by the beliefs of humans, for example, even if you ate an apple like the rabbits, the world's judgment would consider that action to be a slightly evil action."

"That's stupid."

"Maybe, but small beliefs help shape the world and decide what evil and good can be. It is through this I can decide if you are even worthy of stepping into my store. No story is ever black and white, but with the help of belief, we can see what shade of gray each side is."
