Chapter 38

Mind you, I was still full of questions, but looking at him so calm and peaceful made wish that I could move past what happened at dinner. Maybe that was why I wanted him to go to sleep before me.

But Peter wasn’t going to sleep. Instead he was fighting it with every ounce of his being, trying to keep the moment going with small conversation. Not the conversation I wanted, but I figured we would eventually get to it.

“How can someone I still barely know make me so happy?” he asked while caressing my cheek

“What do you want to know?” I replied, but quickly bit my tongue. What if he got personal, I mean deeply personal. What if he asked things about my past that I would have to make up on the spot? I didn’t want to lie, but if this happened I would need to. Or would I, I wondered. Could I possibly tell Peter everything about me?

“Where did you go?” Peter asked, snapping back to his gaze. I guess I had drifted a bit too long.
