Misgivings

“What do you mean by Chloe’s not here?” Ethan thundered at Tanya, Chloe’s coworker, and then shook his head apologetically, immediately feeling bad for yelling at her. It was not her fault that no one seemed to know where Chloe was, but the bad feeling he had steadfastly refused to leave him.

“I’m not her keeper, you know. Besides, she does not work on Sundays and you know this as well as I do.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry.”

“Have you tried calling her?” Tanya called over her shoulder as she went over to attend to a customer, leaving Ethan standing at the counter and tapping his fingers on it. He had to wait for her to come back, which did nothing for his already frayed nerves.

“She left her phone at home and the door unlocked.”

“Okay, well. She no doubt didn’t go very far. Just go home and wait for her. You’re acting like an overprotective father… or dare I say an overprotective husband?” Tanya said mischievously, but Ethan was not in the mood to joke.
