The fire alarm was blaring and the sprinklers were on; trying to put out the fire.

The Med-lab door had already melted into slag and the lab itself was destroyed. Incenerated by enormous amounts of heat.

The healing chambers were ruined and most of the samples being kept in the lab were gone. A vile of the Abomination's blood which was being tested, and a couple of the perfected Extremis Virus had disappeared, but that wasn't important right now.

What was important was the charred corpse lying in the middle of the lab.

"Oh my god, no!" Jean gasped in horror.

There wasn't enough time to be shocked, so I teleported straight beside the body and used the time stone's power.

As soon as I touched the corpse, I started reversing its time, to before it's current state.

Like a movie being played in reverse, the corpse began to rewind itself to its previous state.

Black carbonized flesh became supple, healthy skin once more. Muscles re-knitted themselves back into shape, and bones that had turned to ash became solid once again and snapped back into place.

Jean, who was standing beside me, was shocked to say the least. It was her first time seeing the new power I managed to gain from the time stone.

I could basically reverse any injury, including death, as long as it wasn't too late.

< When did you learn how to heal?> She asked.

< I didn't heal her. I reversed her time.> I answered.

< The Time Stone? > She questioned.

I nod. < Yes, but I had to promise the Ancient One I won't use it anymore. I figured it was worth it. Since you know, two of our friends almost died in one day.>

Jean's jaw was set, and I could see the fury in her eyes.

She was tired, and today was just a bad day. She was breathing heavily, and when she spoke, her mental voice was laced with fury.

< Who?>

< Kurt, but he's fine now.> I said.

The sound of coughing interrupted our telepathic conversation." Ahh... What happened?" She asked.

" I don't know. We were hoping you would be the one to tell us." I said.

She held her head in pain," I'm...not sure. But, the last thing I remember was..."

She scrunched her face, trying to remember. " Yellow eyes?"

I shot Jean a look and nodded. Jean started using her telepathy to scan for the Shadow King's psychic signature.

A few seconds later, Jean communicated telepathically.< She's clear. I could sense faint traces, but not enough to be concerned. >

I sighed in relief and looked at her once again. " Rogue, this is very important. Can you tell me anything about what happened to Dr. Hansen?"

Rogue took in a breath like she was going to say something, but stopped at the last second as if trying to remember. She looked confused and a few moments later her face contorted with horror." That thing it.. it took HER!"

(3rd POV)

The Shadow King sat staring out at the vast expanse of New York stretched out in front of him.

Now that he had escaped, he needed somewhere to stay and plan his next move.

The sensation of body-hopping was becoming a bit of an old hat to the Shadow King. Not that the experience made it any easier to do, in fact, it almost made it more difficult to predict.

He had clawed into the darkest corners of Rogue's mind and raked every raw, painful memory forward into the light. He made her live through every memory all at once, blinding her to everything but the memories.

Trapped inside her own mind, The Shadow King had total control over her body.

His mistake came from supercharging her abilities.

In an attempt to overwhelm Dr. Hansen's regeneration ability, Rogue's ability went into overdrive and almost absorbed him too.

Normally her powers were ill-equipped to absorb pure psychic energy, but it turns out the girl was more powerful than he thought.

That was two times he almost got killed in one day. And, ironically, it was because of bad luck.

His plans for Legion were ruined by the Phoenix's host, and now he had to make himself scarce unless he wanted a repeat of last time. " First that damn bird, and then that emo-bitch. "He muttered to himself.

The second time had only been more jarring, and he couldn't imagine how bad things would have gotten if he hadn't reacted quickly enough.

Predictably, he had to escape in a hurry, though the experience was no less frantic.

He smiled in satisfaction though, when he remembered what he did to his last host.

After taking over Dr. Hansen's body, he burned Rogue into a crisp since she almost killed him.

He lost a few hundred years' worth of memories because of her, so he figured it was best to just tie loose ends.

No sense in letting someone who can kill him running around. Even with this new body, he still felt raw afterward.

' Hmm...the virus is interesting though. According to the doctor's memories, the virus isn't only limited to healing and body enhancement. She was also working on another version, a superior one. One that would allow it to do more.'

With that in mind, the shadow King began to communicate.ting with the Virus inside his body using his Psychic abilities.

The virus didn't have a mind of its own, but that was only a minor problem.

The virus could be controlled, using certain subsonic frequencies, which weren't that difficult to replicate using Psychic energy.

The virus responded right away to his commands, so he began using the virus to modify itself.

He could feel the heat rising though his body. If anyone were to look deep into his eyes they would have seen a strange orange glint forming.

(Cairo, Giza)

The tall blue skinned armored being was En Sabah Nur or, as he was also called, Apocalypse.

He had been born over 5.000 years ago in old Egypt. Born as a human mutant, one of the first of his kind and by far the oldest who still existed.

Born with incredible powers, but different from any normal human. He learned from an early age how cruel humans could be, that no matter what, regular humans would never accept anything that looked different.

As a baby he had been abandoned in the desert and left to die. Only to be found and taken in by a tribe of dessert-raiders and marauders.

From his early childhood he had learned their philosophy – the strong survive and the weak perish. It had become the creed he lived by.

Since his early childhood he had been singled out, being mocked and attacked, even by his own tribesmen. Except for the man who had taken him in, the man he had called father.

Later his tribe had been attacked and wiped out by the Pharaoh's army and his father killed.

The reigning Pharao – a man who had betrayed and murdered himself to power – had once been an ally of his tribe, sought to destroy them once he was on the throne.

He didn´t care about the tribe. He was even glad that they were dead. They had been weak, stupid and ignorant, all except for his father.

He too would have died on that day, if he had been a normal man. But he wasn´t. He had been practically immortal even back then.

But everything changed when his mutant powers fully awakened. On that day, the Pharaoh as well as his armies, crumbled before his might.

He had taken the role of a ruler. He became a myth – the Lord of the Apocalypse. He had furthered the evolution of mankind, helped the strong to thrive by weeding out the weak. Not out of some personal gain, but simply because it was the right thing to do.

He caused wars, sowed discord and helped to topple entire civilizations.

He even chose certain individuals and gave them power imbued them with his essence.

All that for his single great goal.

He had never forgotten a single hit, a single strike with the scourge on him, a single insult or attempt to kill him. But all that only made him stronger.

It was a dark truth that it were the forces of struggle, violence and chaos that brought the world to step forward. And he had gladly become their harbinger.

There was barely anyone to challenge him and his powers during those days. Only a few beings from time to time.

Alien visitors or other super powered beings like himself. But they were rare. During a few of these confrontations, he also got his hands on modern alien technology originally belonging to the visitors.

At first he could not do much with that. It was just too far ahead of his time. But he had centuries to figure it out after all.

But, unfortunately he didn't get the chance to do so. Rebels, cowards really. Betrayed him.

He was so close to true immortality. He had finally found someone with the ability he needed. A mutant. One he could transfer his own consciousness into, capable of holding all of the energies contained within his body.

With this kind of power, he could have brought his rule of the strong – the Age of Apocalypse as he called it - over the entire galaxy.

But it turned out to be a failure, a complete one. They struck him down when he was just a bodiless consciousness – when he was at his most vulnerable. The Rebels interrupted the transference ritual, and sealed him in a tomb for thousands of years.

The great Apocalypse would have perished, if it weren't for a few loyal subjects, his own horsemen sacrificed themselves to save him at the last moment and if it weren't for them, his spirit would have dissolved and perished centuries ago...

But, now fate had intervened once more. It had given him another chance.

Magneto had brought him back and restored him to life, acquired him a new vessel even.

The vessel belonged to a Nephalilim, he remembered killing a few of those back in the day, a bothersome race to say the least.

It wasn't the best he had inhabited, but he guessed it would have to do, at least for now.

As a reward he decided to restore Magneto's power, made him more powerful even. Then he had given him his offer. To become one of his Heralds... and he accepted. He became the horsemen of Famine.

Magneto even asked for his children to be given the same gifts, and what marvelous children they were. So full of potential and untapped power.

Pietro had the gift of speed, one not to be underestimated. In the right hands a truly deadly ability. One made even more powerful by becoming the horsemen of War.

Wanda was the most interesting of them all.

Even after becoming the horsemen of Death, and unlocking her potential, it felt like he was merely scratching the surface.

With abilities like probability manipulation in addition to her previously dormant magical abilities. It gave her a wide range of abilities like: flight, telepathy, transfiguration, and telekinesis.

In thousands of years he only had dealt with subordinates, targets or opponents. And quite ironically for the most part with only few exceptions, the only people who had truly earned his respect were his enemies.

Finally, forces on Earth that truly challenged him were roaming the earth like never before.

Foes that allowed him to proof his own right to survive against. Yes, despite everything he was happy.

The appearance of more and more mutants like himself meant his race would only grow stronger, and thrive.

His musings were interrupted by Magneto's voice. " Wanda is coming along quite well, I imagine she will be up and running in a few days."

Apocalypse hummed in agreement. " That's good to hear. We still have to recruit our fourth horsemen."

" You could always make Psylocke your fourth horsemen. She has potential. " Magneto suggested.

" I considered it, but I've been picking up on two much more powerful psychic signatures from the western hemisphere. Two Omega level telepaths to be exact, and I can already sense 5 other omega level beings, and that's not counting you and Wanda. "

Magneto grunted." I have a few guesses on who they could possibly be, one of them is probably Jean Grey and the other is Charles Xavier, that mutant Cypher could be one too, but I have no idea who the rest of them are. "

" I'm actually quite intrigued by this era, to think it would give birth to so many powerful mutants. It makes one wonder... " Apocalypse said.

Magneto quirked an eyebrow." Forgive me, but I don't think I follow. "

" All shall soon be revealed. In the mean time, I was thinking of paying a few of our fellow mutants a visit. " Apocalypse said.

A slight smile broke out on Magneto's face.

" You know what, that's actually a great idea. I have a few scores to settle, and I know just who to start with... "
