Travelling to Wangyun Peak had offered a healthy dose of escapism.
Yet, the air grew colder as more road stretched behind them and reality was catching up.
Yuan Xuelan already lamented the days they travelled alone, where Sumeng wasn't shy and curled up with him openly to share warmth.
It made him whiny, impatient even, but when he saw that Liu Sumeng didn't share even an ounce of his anxiety, it made him feel silly and childish.
Soon the tall mountain was in view and Yuan Xuelan could only bite back his nervousness while Liu Sumeng wore a subtle expression of happiness. This was his home after all, and despite all the pointless drama that may have unravelled there, he was still excited about the prospect of returning.
The snow had grown high from heavy snowfall, but there was a little path that trailed up the mountain, barely wide enough for the horses to travel. But their steeds were proud and without complaint.
