The Motion

After taking a shower and eating an unusually large breakfast, Jon stood at the door, watching his sister leave for work.

She had on a black business skirt suit with her blazer covering her white blouse. She wore a black stocking and had on black shoes to match her attire.

She had on a thick layer of make-up; it was more than what she usually wears. It was probably to hide the fact that she hadn't gotten enough rest.

"Aren't you interested in what grandpa left with us in that briefcase?"

Jon questioned her as he handed her her bag as she prepared to leave. Hearing his question, her brows raised and her mouth made an 'o' shape as if she just remembered something.

"I almost forgot about that. I also have the bank account and debit card that Mr. Reed gave me."

"So, what are you going to do?"

"I have the card and paper with me, so I'll check that out after work. As for the briefcase, I found it under your bed and couldn't open it. I assume you had no luck with it either. Isn't that's why you threw it under there?"

"...."

Jon wasn't sure what he should tell her, so he kept silent. He pondered about telling her about the serum and flash drive that he found, but her voice broke him out of his thoughts as she continued.

"No need to worry about it; we can call Mr. Reed if we can't figure out how to open it; he might know how and forgot to tell us."

She looked at him with a smile on her face, as if she were trying to reassure him. He gave her a somber look because he knew that smile wasn't real.

"What's with that look? Is there something on my face?"

"No, it's nothing. Have a nice day at work."

Jon shook his head and gave her a small smile. Seeing this, she gave him a puzzling look and looked at him from head to toe.

"By the way."

Natasha said as she placed her hand on her head, then moved it over to Jon's.

"Have you gotten taller? Are you going through a growth spurt or something?"

"What are you talking about? I've always been taller, midget."

Jon gave her a smug smile as he looked down at her. Her brows twitched a little when she heard what he said and saw the smug look on his face.

"Oy, who are you calling a midget!? I can still plant my foot upside your head, you little brat!"

She shouted angrily at him and was about to swing her bag at him until she heard his voice once more.

"Aren't you going to be late?"

She stopped in realization after remembering she was already late for work and didn't want to make it worse. She rushed out the door, turned around, and looked at him before saying.

"This isn't over, brat. And remember to call me if anything happens."

She closed the door behind her and left. Hearing her footsteps scurry away quickly in the distance, Jon let out a long sigh.

'That was a close one.'

He thought to himself in relief, knowing that his sister wasn't afraid to attack him when he made fun of her height.

'I've got to prepare since she might still retaliate later.'

Jon thought, knowing his sister is just as petty, if not even more petty than himself.

"Alright then. Let's see how effective this serum is.

Jon was in the middle of an open field that was in his community, and all he had planned to do were some simple exercises. He had no choice but to do so since it was in the morning and a lot of people were doing their early morning runs.

He was wearing a gray tracksuit along with gray and white sneakers. He planned to do the same as the others and run around the field to test his stamina.

The field was about 120 meters in length and 43 meters in width. Seeing other people taking lapses around the field, Jon started to do some light stretches to warm up. And after he finished warming up, he crouched down into a running start.

He raised his head to look in front of him, and he then took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and listened to his surroundings. He could hear the footsteps of someone approaching from behind him at a noticeable pace, and if he could listen closely, he could hear as they panted for air.

Jon unknowingly entered a hyper-focused state, and his senses were heightened more than ever before. His hearing, sense of smell, touch, sight, taste, and even his sixth senses were enhanced to the peak of what his body was capable of at the moment. Jon felt the presence of the person behind him getting closer by the second, and when he felt the person was about to run past him, his eyes suddenly opened.

*

An old man was on his morning jog, just as he had done every morning to keep himself fit. He was on his third and last lap when he saw a young man kneeling down a few meters away from him.

'What's he doing?'

The old man thought to himself as he got closer to the young man. The old man knew he was close to his limits considering how hard he was panting, but he pushed himself to finish what he had started, and just as he was about to overtake the young man, he suddenly got up and took off at an unbelievable speed.

The old man's eyes widened in shock due to how fast the young man started running. He didn't even realize he had stopped running and was watching the young man sprint away into the distance.

'Such impatience at a young age. Doesn't he know that he has to pace himself, or else he'll just tire himself out? He is quite fast, though. Is he an athlete?"

The old man thought as he watched Jon overtake everyone in front of him. The old man was confident that Jon would start to slow down, so he continued his jog. But after awhile, he started to realize Jon wasn't slowing down at all, and he began to complete his first lap around the field and even overtake him.

With the speed at which Jon ran by him, the old man couldn't help but compare him to a racehorse. But Jaon didn't stop there.

A second lap.

Then a third.

Then a fourth.

And then another.

Jon kept on running at the initial speed that he had taken off at without slowing down at all. He was so focused on running that he didn't even notice the crowd that was slowly gathering to watch him.

*

Jon felt amazing as he ran, and he didn't feel tired as yet. He was someone who was confident in his speed, but he had never run this fast in his life before.

'I feel I can go even faster.'

Jon thought to himself, and just as he was about to increase his speed, he noticed a small crowd of people gathered to the side watching him run. Jon had long stopped counting how many laps he had completed so far, but seeing that he was gathering attention, he decided to stop.

Jon skidded to a stop and let out a long breath. He looked behind him and saw an old man approaching him along with a few others. The old man had a light complexion with a head full of gray hair and wore a dark blue tank top and blank track suit pants with white stripes at the sides, along with black and white sneakers. He approached Jon with a friendly look on his face.

"Excuse me, young man, did you know you just ran fifty laps at full speed without slowing down? Are you an athlete? Are you on your school's track team?"

The old man fired a barrage of questions at Jon that made him a bit confused, but when Jon realized what he had said first, he exclaimed in shock.

"Wait, did you say fifty?!"

"Oh, you didn't know?"

"I stopped counting after a while."

Jon said with an awkward smile on his face, which made the old man's eyes widen in shock at his words.

"So you're telling me that you haven't been keeping count? What you did was quite an impressive feat for someone so young."

"To be honest, I was just trying to let off some steam, you know. I hadn't really had anything in mind."

Jon lied, knowing that he couldn't tell them that he was trying to test his stamina or speed. But he wasn't really lying since he had wanted to let off some steam anyway.

"By the way, I don't think I've seen you before, and I've lived in this community for a while. You must be new here."

"I just moved here a few weeks ago. I'm afraid I have to go now. It was nice meeting you."

After answering a few of the old man's questions and avoiding most of them, Jon made up an excuse and left the field in a rush.

On his way back to his house, Jon thought about what happened earlier with a small frown on his face.

'I got to be careful about what I do in front of people, or they'll be suspicious. I got to test the effect of the serum on my body, so it wasn't all bad, I guess."

Although he hadn't tested it to its full extent, he knew his body was way different than it was before. His stamina was much greater than that of most athletes; he was able to sprint fifty laps at a high enough speed without even losing his breath.

He was also three to four times faster than he was previously, although he wasn't sure since he felt he could have run faster than he was going.

'I need to properly test my strength and speed to know how drastic my improvements actually are."

Jon thought to himself as he walked on the sidewalk toward his house. He was thinking about ways he could test his strength without anyone finding out how freakish his body has gotten.

He continued walking, lost in thought, until he came up on a stop sign, and just as he was about to walk past it, he stopped and looked up at it. He took a look to his left and right to see if anyone was looking, and then got in a stance.

He exhaled a deep breath and hopped twice on the spot, then jumped in the air and hit the stop sign with a spinning hook kick.

Bang!

The sound rang out loudly in the air, and the stop sign was bent back at a 45-degree angle.

Seeing what happened to the stop sign, Jon gasped in shock. He didn't mean to hit it that hard, so he started to look around once more to check if anyone saw him, but he suddenly heard a voice coming from behind him.

"Woah!"

When he turned around, he saw a light-skinned boy that looked about 9–10 years old staring at him. The boy seemed to be of Hispanic descent, and by the way he was dressed, he seemed like he was heading to school, although it was a bit later in the morning.

'Shit!'

Jon thought to himself as he stared at the boy with a deadpan look. He stared at him for a few seconds, then raised his index finger towards his lips, indicating to the little boy to keep what he saw a secret. Then he took off in a mad dash in the direction of his house.
