Chapter Five

Seventh grade was the worse year of Breanna's life. While she had started to take care of horses, bad things followed. Before we talk about that, we will share one of Breanna's fondest memories with her mother. Breanna, Tangela, Keegan, and Bryce went to a festival and looked around. This lead to Breanna learning how to ride horses and take care of them. She enjoyed this more than anything else she had ever done. Breanna was about to turn 13 years-old and she was content with life. Her mother would watch her ride sometimes and Breanna hoped that she was proud. During the winter, she and her family moved again to a duplex. She was able to attend the same school because the town that they lived in was small. They lived in this house for a few years.

When Breanna started failing school, she had to quit riding horses. She hated not going, but she had to do better in school. A few months after they moved, Breanna's world was turned upside down. It was halfway through seventh grade and she had gotten her grades up. Her parents didn't come home around the time that they usually did. She found out that her mother was having an emergency hysterectomy. Upon finding this out, Breanna felt sick. She felt like something really bad was about to happen and they her mother shouldn't have the surgery. She didn't have a say in what happened, so she tried to be hopeful.

Her mother came home a few days later. She said that she felt amazing and Breanna was happy for her. A few days after that, her mother was back in the hospital. Her white blood cells were attacking her platelets. A few days later, her mother was barely eating. There were little pockets of blood under her skin all over her body, even in her eyes. She started throwing up a brownish substance, but her mother was happy that she could finally use the bathroom. Breanna did her best to help her mother feel better. She always believed that there was nothing that could defeat her. She believed that her mother could overcome anything and that she was the strongest person in the world. One day, around the time that her father was gonna be home with Keegan, Breanna went up to her mother's room. They didn't have a bedframe so Paul, Bryce, and Breanna had brought the couch up for Tangela to sleep on. Breanna thought that she was asleep, so Breanna laid on the floor with her head on the mattress. A few moments later, she noticed that her mother's heart would stop beating then continue after some time. Her mother took a breath and then spoke. "Is my heart stopping?" Breanna replied with "Yes. Every few minutes." There was a long pause before her mother told her to call Paul. Breanna asked what she should say and Tangela replied with "Tell him I think that I am dying." Breanna's heart shattered, but she tried her best not to show it. Paul rushed home after picking Keegan up from daycare. An ambulance came and took her parents away. Panic ripped through Breanna. She wondered what would happen, if her mother would survive, how life was going to change. She wanted to scream and cry, but she didn't. She took a deep breath and began to straighten up the house for when her parents came home. She knew that her mom would be happy to see a clean house when she returned, so Breanna cleaned.
