Chapter 8: Unexpected Outcome

Roman woke up with a start, confused on what's going on?

"Man did I have the weirdest dream." he spoke aloud, thinking he was still in his hospital bed.

Then, after looking around for a while, he came back to reality with an unfortunate realization.

Everything so far has been real.

After gathering his bearings, he looked back at that ethereal timer above his chamber to see how much time had passed since he was unconscious.

-162:34:22-

'So at least 5 hours have passed since I was unconscious. Holmes are you there?'

[Yes Sir, I am always here.]

'What happened? One moment I felt like I was taking a relaxing bath, then the next moment I felt like I was thrown into the sun.'

[An unknown reaction had occurred between the 3 mental skills you had decided on Sir, leading to a rather surprising outcome. I cannot yet tell if it is good or bad though, seeing as how I don't have enough data to go on except for your memories.]

Hearing Holmes' words, Roman assumed the worst at first, before he felt a wave of calmness inexplicably take over him, most likely his perk, giving him time to think things over with unnatural clarity.

'What exactly are these changes you're referring to?'

[Well Sir, according to your earlier words when we discussed picking these 3 abilities, I believe they have fused due to their synergy between each other. Your talent Fast-Learner was also a part of this fusion.]

Now, Roman was stunned when he heard this. That's basically an incredibly amazing outcome. So why did Holmes say that it could be either good or bad?

[During the fusion, you were very close to death. Although I don't believe that such a thing should usually be dangerous, your Curse decided that it was the best time to inflict that pain on you in the form of the burning sensation you were describing.]

[This could've led to your fusion failing, which could've caused a potentially fatal backlash in conjunction with your current physical state from your past life.]

[You fell unconscious due to the fusion of abilities trying to fight off the Curse in order to succeed and keep you alive. I believe that the only reason you survived is thanks to you possibly having an unknown Physique, or else nothing else would make sense.]

Roman was now in total fear. He was just a hair's breadth away from dying, and he wouldn't have been none the wiser.

Although he accepted his fate back then, he didn't want to accept such a fate now, not when there was a chance for a better future on his horizon. He needed to learn more as fast as possible so he wouldn't remain as ignorant to these kinds of things again.

[There is some more news too, Sir.]

Hearing this Roman pushed down his fear, his perk helping him too, before he urged Holmes to explain.

[Another unknown reaction occurred between your Physique and Curse, but it wasn't really harmful. Your Physique, allowed your natural body to build up a resistance to that burning sensation, gradually lessening the pain that your body is supposed to feel.]

Roman was lost for words at this point. Earlier he was thinking about Doomsday and his reactive adaptation, and now he realized that he might have that as well.

[That is incorrect Sir, I don't believe it is exactly similar to what you're thinking about. If you would assist me in doing a quick test, I would be able to garner more data.]

'Sure just tell me what you want me to do.' At this point, Roman will do almost anything in order to get more answers on what's happening. He was almost numb to it at this point.

[Please obtain any type of sharp object, and cut your finger with it.]

Without hesitation, and in a slightly deranged manner, Roman began clamoring throughout the kitchen, trying to find a knife, before he remembered that he could just imagine one into existence thanks to his chamber's unique feature.

After obtaining a knife, he immediately poked his index finger with it, only to be stunned at the sight of his wound scabbing over before even the slightest drop of blood could fall.

'That's right, I also chose Super Regeneration as one of my abilities.'

Realizing this, he let Holmes continue his analysis until he informed him of the results, and began looking around his room for a moment, before he willed for a dartboard into existence at the other end of the chamber in the living room, and suddenly threw the knife towards it.

A perfect bullseye.

Willing a few more dart boards into existence into different areas, he willed some darts into existence as well, before he began throwing them around the place.

Most of the time, he did it one by one, and he also tested throwing two or three at the same time. He even tried curving some of his shots into his bedroom, closet, and bathroom.

Almost all of them were bullseyes.

He concluded it was almost, because he noticed that the darts he threw in twos or threes were all off the bullseye, with the threes missing more than the twos. It was the same with the darts he tried curving.

He assumed that he could perfectly hit a target that is stationary as far as his eye can see, while he would need to practice more in order to do the same while trying to curve his shots or throwing in groups to be able to get a perfect shot.

[You are correct in your assumptions Sir. You used 143 dartboards, and 278 darts, yet missed 22% of those which were either curved, or thrown in pairs.]

'Wait, when did you return? Did you finish your analysis on my physique?'

[Yes Sir. My results have shown to me that there is always a 'chance' for you to be able to build up a resistance, or even a counter, to certain types of stimuli.]

'No way! Are you telling me…?'

[Indeed Sir. Please refer back to the Parameters and Power Set File in order to view all of the changes I've noted.]

Roman decided to do just that. He mentally tried to access that information, allowing a screen to pop up in his mind.
