Chapter 7: How to Choose Your Abilities 101

The only place that could resemble Roman's thoughts right now would be a garbage dump.

Just when he thought things were looking bright and hopeful for him, he was slapped in the face, spit on, and kicked in the balls all at once.

And that's putting his condition lightly.

Of course, Roman realized it was naïve of him to think that way, but he just refused to accept any form of negative thinking like in his past life.

Even when he had his suspicions about why the room was so dirty when he first arrived, and why he was stuck in this so called Dimensional Chamber in between the Curtains, he just wanted to look at the few positives he finally managed to find such as knowing he had superpowers, and his own personal A.I, and just ignore the negatives.

Once again, he was too naïve.

While Roman was trying to pick up the latest (yet failed) broken pieces of his newly formed mindset on this world, some sort of ethereal timer suddenly appeared in the ceiling of his Chamber, and began counting down for something.

Roman, after a few minutes of trying to gather his bearings, finally noticed the existence of the newest timer in his room, which managed to quickly sober him up.

'Now's not the time for sentimentality' he quickly thought. 'I was naïve, yes, but now I need to quickly form a plan to survive.'

'I can't just ignore all of these negative points that I'm managing to find, or I'll be the first person to die. I don't need to focus on these dark thoughts, but I can't ignore them and just focus on the positives, or I'll practically be sailing in the dark with only one eye open.'

After concluding the mistakes he made in his mind, Roman tried to analyze the best possible way to use up the week of preparation given to him, while also staring at the book in his lap.

'Judging by the size of this book, and all the books I've read before in the hospital, it would take me at least a minimum of 12 hours to finish it, and that's if I skim through some of the parts.'

'I obviously can't memorize all of it's contents that easily too, so I might forget or miss out on any important info that can be helpful to me if I do something that idiotic.'

[I can be of assistance if you allow me to guide you Sir.]

Roman, who was so engrossed into making a plan, finally remembered the existence of his trusty A.I Holmes, who is definitely one of his greatest advantages at the moment, and possibly in whatever future is to come.

'Perfect! How could I have forgotten about you Holmes? Is it possible for you to formulate a plan to be able to make the best out of the week given to me? I need to be almost completely prepared and not out of the loop.'

[Yes Sir, I am most definitely capable of such a feat. However, please specify what points you would like to improve upon, or goals that need to be met, so that I can help you to the best of my capabilities.]

'Good. First I need to be able to finish this book, while memorizing all of it in the shortest time possible. Second, I need to bring my body's condition up to the highest possible state within a week.'

'We can form more plans when we have more information to work with, that's why we need to read this book first to know what we are getting into.'

[Sir, the first step is by far the easiest to complete, and by my calculations, can be done in an hour.]

Roman was dazed for a moment and quickly wondered how that was possible.

[Sir just needs to finally choose his 5 abilities including the 3 Mental abilities you've already decided on. Like previously mentioned, they can synergize with my processing power, boosting them to unimaginable heights.]

That's right. Due to the interruption from that Envoy, Roman forgot about deciding on the last 2 abilities.

[Going off of your requirements for bringing up your body to the highest possible physical state in a week, I recommend you also select Super Regeneration in order to have a smaller amount of downtime, which will lead to greater periods of intense body conditioning.]

Ok… so now he needs to choose one more ability.

'Do you have any other recommendations on what should be my last ability?'

Although Roman doesn't want to completely rely on his blessing and feel like he's not in control, he's already gotten rid of such wishful thoughts.

When life gives you lemons, you're not always going to be able to decide on making lemonade. So, he decided to just relinquish most of his control to his partner Holmes since he doesn't have all the details needed so far to survive.

[I recommend you pick either between Sharpshooting, or Power Stealing. With Sharpshooting, you'll automatically have a form of attack and defense in the form of keeping distance should you encounter any enemies in the future.]

[Power Stealing is more of a gamble as you concluded yourself earlier due to not knowing if you will even meet another power user. This is not even considering if you will encounter a power you deem useful or wanting.

[Meanwhile, you will not need to worry too much about close combat thanks to your Super Regeneration should you become injured.]

[Also, if we have time and should you request it, I can form a training plan regarding different combat forms that may be useful to you with all of these requirements.]

Roman was practically blown away by Holmes' deduction (Get it?). He overlooked many of these points, making him realize that he has a lot to learn if he wants to rely a little less on his partner.

Relationships should be mutual, regardless of the kind, and so far he's provided absolutely nothing to his own situation, just like his past life, which stung him more than he cared to admit.

'Ok, I've made my decision then, choose Super Regeneration, Super Learning, Sharpshooting, Super Mentality, and Super Intelligence.'

[Processing choices…]

[Abilities have been selected!]

[Beginning Integration.]

Suddenly, Roman felt a pleasantly cool feeling occurring within his entire body, as if he was soaking in a hot spring. This was especially true for his head, as the comfort emanating from there couldn't even be described in words.

[Warning! Warning! Notice: Sir, a dangerous reaction is occurring between your 3 mental skills!]

Before Roman could understand what was going on, he suddenly felt that comforting feeling vanish, abruptly being replaced with a sensation akin to him being soaked in a vat of lava. He writhed in pain for a few minutes, before it became too much to bear, causing him to pass out.
