ROAD TRIPS.

CHAPTER 16: ROAD TRIPS.

The door to Justin's room parted open and Frank emerged.

"What now?" Justin mumbled inaudibly, looking away.

"Congratulations on your new gift," Frank said smiling, but Justin looked at him coldly.

Frank cleared his throat, adjusting himself as he saw Justin's cold demeanor.

"Well, I uh- I wanted to give you a tour of the Estate, if you wouldn't mind. It's quite a sight to behold," Frank proposed.

"A tour? Okay," Justin shrugged, agreeing, to Frank's surprise.

"Excellent. Let us proceed then," Frank said, making a gesture with his hand, leading Justin out of his room.

_________

Detective Savannah and her partner, Detective Riley were at the New York police department, when Detective Savannah brought up the case of the sudden resurrection of the bloody rivalry between the underworld groups, The Bulls Clan and The Night Clan.

The cops feared this could be the return of the previously known bloody streets of New York, once again making it unsafe for the average innocent citizens.

"What could have prompted the attack? Who attacked who?" Detective Savannah wondered.

"They are lawless. They need no reason to express their brute nature," Detective Riley said.

"Well, not these guys, especially The Bulls Clan. They have codes of operation. And this is what makes this case even more dicey. And we're just getting started," Detective Savannah sighed frustratedly.

They seemed to have hit a dead end right at the beginning of the case.

"Any suggestions, smarty-pants?" she asked sarcastically, leaning into her chair, as her partner cracked his head,. thinking.

"Aha!"

"What is it?" Detective Savannah asked, sitting up straight as her attention was drawn.

"How about, we go undercover, snoop around. Something will most definitely come up," Riley suggested.

Detective Savannah glared at him, shaking her head disappointedly.

"I knew you were going to say something stupid. Gosh," she snickered, as Riley laughed her to scorn.

"Would you get serious for once? This is something serious we're dealing with right now."

"Okay okay. Hear me out. Why don't we just ask that ex-mafia man. What's his name again?" Riley snapped his fingers, thinking.

"Lincoln?" Detective furrowed her brow.

"Exactly! Lincoln. He should have some intel."

Detective Savannah's eyes popped up, as she gasped. "That's really genius of you."

"Told you I was smart," Riley boasted.

"Yeah right," Detective Savannah rolled her eyes as she got up, grabbed her gun and badge from her desk, and headed to the office of the chief of police.

"Where are you going?" Riley enquired.

"He's in witness protection. We need to know where he's being holed up you dummy."

"Oh, right," he said, feeling like a fool. Detective Savannah shook her head as she walked. Soon after she got to the office.

"May I come in boss?" Detective Savannah requested, knocking on the door

"Come in Savannah," he permitted, as he was buried in some paperwork.

"Sir, I'd like to have a word with Lincoln, the ex-mafia member, who's in witness protection."

Hearing that, chief Bobby looked up at her, furrowing his brow.

"What for? You know he's being kept by the FBI right?"

"Yeah, I know," she replied, "And that's why I came to you. Because I know you know someone who knows someone who can make it easier for me to see him in time, and get to the bottom of this case, as soon as possible."

Chief Bobby sighed frustratedly, shaking his head, knowing that Savannah wouldn't leave him be until he gets her what she asked for.

"I'll call someone I know in the FBI, and get back to you," he said to her.

"Thank you sir," Detective Savannah rejoiced. "But could you please make that call now, sir?"

"Of course," he smiled at her, but not from his heart. He just needed her not breathing down his neck.

He made the call and wrote the directives he was given on paper.

"Here. Follow everything accordingly," he instructed.

"Thanks a lot boss. I knew I could count on you," she smiled leaving his office, and returned to her desk.

"Grab the keys. We're going on a road trip," Detective Savannah said to her partner, as she grabbed her suit jacket, and headed out.

Detective Riley hastily grabbed the keys and followed after her.

________

Justin was seated in the living room this time. He wasn't cooped up in his room as the previous days. He seemed to be getting a bit more open and acclimatized to his new found environment.

At that moment, his head was mostly preoccupied with the thought of the car he was gifted. A Bugatti at that.

He could picture how Alex and Duke would go crazy if he ever showed up at their place driving that. But he knew that that wasn't possible, at the moment.

'Why don't I take it for a spin?' Justin reasoned within himself.

He then stood up, heading outside the house with the car key in his hand. He unlocked the car remotely a few meters away. The beeping sound it made was like music to his ears.

He got in, and drew in the smell of the new car, sighing. Some parts of the car were still wrapped in leather. Justin found himself smiling with no joke told to crack him up.

He started the ignition, and fired up the quad-turbo charged W-16 engine.

"Whoo! That's what am talking about," Justin exclaimed excitedly.

He closed the door and drove the car around the Estate. But he wasn't satisfied with the limited room for the desired speedy movement.

"Let's see how fast this baby can go," he concluded, heading to the main gate of the Estate.

The guards came out and greeted him.

"We were told that you were safest within the Estate, for now," the guard said to Justin humbly.

"But it wasn't an order, was it?" Justin cunningly enquired.

"Well, it wasn't an order, sir," the guard replied, feeling cornered and ensnared by his own words.

"Good. Open the gate," Justin instructed, boldly looking at the guard.

The guard had no choice but to open the gate, reluctantly.

Justin nodded in appreciation, and drove out. He got to the express way, and fired up the engine, accelerating at full speed.

"Whoo! What the...!" he exclaimed joyously.

Not long after, he heard the blaring sound of a siren behind him.

"Crap!" He saw through the side mirror that it was a road patrol officer that chased after him.
