Chapter 13 : A Difficult Decision

Chapter 13 : A Difficult Decision

Riya took a deep breath, steeling herself for the difficult conversation ahead. With resolve in her eyes, she met Mr. and Mrs. Kim's gaze and spoke firmly, yet compassionately.

"I'm sorry, but I can't go with you," Riya began, her voice steady despite the turmoil swirling within her.

"I have a loving family here, and I'm happy with them. I understand that you've been searching for me, but the truth is, we were switched at birth, and I have my own family who truly cares for me.

"I hope you can understand and respect my decision to stay here."

She rose from her seat, gratitude in her eyes as she thanked them for the meal. Without waiting for a response, she made her way to the door, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions.

Before she could leave, however, Mr. Kim's voice stopped her in her tracks. "Wait," he implored, his tone filled with urgency.

Riya turned to face him, her brow furrowed with curiosity and apprehension. Mr. Kim's words hung heavy in the air as he revealed a piece of information that caught Riya off guard.

"You still don't know if we can cure your brother," he said, his voice laden with emotion. Riya's heart clenched at the mention of her brothers, the thought of his struggles weighing heavily on her mind.

"What do you mean?" Riya asked, her voice tinged with concern.

Mr. Kim explained the situation with a solemn expression, revealing the challenges her brother faced and the promise of potential treatment if she were to accompany them to Korea.

Riya's fists clenched at her sides as she processed Mr. Kim's words, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts and emotions. Despite her resolve to stay with her family, the prospect of finding a cure for her brother tugged at her heartstrings.

Mr. Kim sighed, his expression filled with understanding as he acknowledged Riya's inner turmoil. "I know you've grown up with them," he began, his voice gentle yet firm. "But you also need to think about your own feelings. After so many years, we finally found you, and not just us – your brother is waiting for you to come back home. Please, think about it."

With those words hanging in the air, Riya left the hotel room, her mind swirling with uncertainty and doubt.

As she returned home, darkness had already descended, mirroring the heaviness in her heart. Lost in thought, Riya retreated to her room, the weight of Mr. Kim's words weighing heavily on her mind.

The following day, Riya found herself lost in contemplation on the terrace, her thoughts consumed by the difficult decision she faced. Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice Miya's approach until her sister's voice broke through her reverie.

"Sister, what's wrong?" Miya's concerned voice pulled Riya from her thoughts, prompting her to confront the turmoil within her.
