A Surprise Visit And Some Bad News

Jaden eventually woke up with his arms tied behind his back with iron chains as he leaned against the cold cement wall of his holding cell. He looked around groggily and flinched when the memories of what happened started flooding back into his head. He could only remember bits and pieces of it, but he started to feel sick to his stomach. His seal had become undone and he turned back into his arrogant other half and he ended up hurting Chazz because of it. He did it out of self defense of course, but he couldn't help but think he took it a step too far. He could have shown at least a little bit of restraint.

"I see you're awake now." Said Chancellor Shepherd who was standing outside the door to his cell, speaking through an intercom system. "You surprised me yesterday. Your destructive power is no joke. But this is no laughing matter Jaden. Now that we know you're a vampire, we need to take precautions around you. I hope you understand." He said with a soft sigh. Jaden stared at the ground with his bangs covering his eyes as a slight frown appeared on his lips. "So what do you guys plan on doing with me?" He asked with a shaky voice. Chancellor Shepherd placed a finger underneath his chin. "I don't know, you tell me. Yesterday you asked me not to report you to the Demon Act. Can I ask why?" He said as he raised an eyebrow.

Jaden gave him a side eye before he answered back. "Because if you do, then my family will be able to find me again. And I don't want to fall back into the hands of that despicable man ever again." Chancellor Shepherd didn't know to whom Jaden was referring to you, but his first guess must have been that he was talking about his father. "If I'm put on the registry as a vampire than they are going to come investigate!" He said as he started to raise his voice with fear hinted in his tone. "And just what family do you belong to? You're clearly very strong which means you come from a pure lineage. I need to know these things if I can understand how to better help you son."

Jaden just scoffed as he looked at Shepherd. "It doesn't matter what family I belong to. I cut myself off from them a long time ago. They think I died and I want to keep it that way. Only one person from my family who I can trust knows that I'm still alive and I'd rather not get her involved in my problems. She's helped me out more than enough as it is." Chancellor Shepherd proceeded to unlock the door to his cell and allowed himself in so that he could kneel beside his student, and started unbinding the chains that held his arms together. "Alright. I won't report you." After hearing that, Jaden's head perked up with his eyes sparkling. "Really? You'll keep my secret?!" He asked with hope.

"Yes. I'll grant you asylum here and make sure the government doesn't find out about your identity. But I can't just let you roam around like I did before. You have to at least be given the same treatment that all the other monster students receive here." He said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a silver cuff which he placed around Jaden's wrist. This device was known as a D-band, and although Jaden's is unregistered, it still worked just the same. The purpose of it was to act as a Yokai sensor that alerted the staff when the student's powers were being used, as well as acting as a tracker.

"This is for your own good. You're too dangerous to not keep an eye on you even if your powers are sealed away or not. We can't let what happened yesterday happen again." After that realization, Jaden gasped as he pulled down his shirt collar to look at his Rosario. It looked like it always did, but Jaden could tell that there was something off about it. His Rosario was supposed to be full proof, but the mysterious shadow he had conversed with yesterday must have done something to it, because every now and then it would release a spark of electricity. "Shit. I think it might be broken." He said as he aggravatingly sighed. He didn't want to, but it seemed like he was going to have to get her involved after all.

"I'm really sorry headmaster. I promise, I won't lose control again like I did yesterday. But with your permission, I need to go visit someone. She's the only one who could possibly fix this thing." Chancellor Shepherd hummed as he thought about what to do. "Oh? And just who is it that you are going to see?" He asked inquisitively. Jaden chuckled as he thought about the silver haired beauty that always seemed to haunt his nightmares because of her terrifying temper. "My older sister. She works at Yokai Academy along with her husband." He said with a delicate smile.

Yokai Academy was a prominent school within the monster world. Almost every monster has attended Yokai Academy or has heard of it at least once in their life. Before the war started, Yokai Academy taught their students how to coexist with humanity and taught them how to blend amongst them. It was because of their positive outlook that they were biased when their identities were finally revealed to humanity. Tsukune Aono, who became the new headmaster after he graduated, took the humans side and established that Yokai Academy would become sister school's with Duel Academy. Once a year at the beginning of the new school year, the two campuses would meet up and train together.

"I see. Well if she can fix it then who am I to stop you? It's a good thing your seal chose to break at the time that it did, because the annual meeting between our two school's will be underway soon. You can go see her when the time comes, but for now I would like you to stay here. You have to go through a three day probation since we know what you are now. And you can also think of this as your punishment for fighting on school grounds. Did you really think I would just let you off the hook?" He said smugly. Jaden sighed as he slumped against the floor. He deserved that much, he thought. He just hoped his friends wouldn't be too worried to wonder where he was. He did disappear in the middle of the night without telling anyone so of course they would be worried about him.

The next three days were totally agony for the young vampire. Without anything to do or without anyone to talk to, the days seemed to drag out without any end. He thought he was going to start losing his mind if he wasn't going to be let out soon. Is this what Chazz had to go through every time he got into trouble? Now that he was going through the same thing, he couldn't understand how a repeat offender like Chazz could tolerate treatment like this. Because Jaden was ready to blow his brains out, and he hadn't even been there for that long! But he took this as a lesson. Never get on the headmaster's bad side.

He laid on the ground with his legs resting on the wall as he threw a bouncy ball, catching it in a single person game of catch. He was ready to just take a nap and see if that would past the time, until he heard the door to his cell open which immediately caused him to jump back up on his feet. Chancellor Shepherd walked in while being escorted by two guards as they entered his cell. "Your probation is over. Currently, it is 7am in the morning. You have about an hour before you have to go to your first class."

Jaden was escorted out of his cell and back into the outside world. And he didn't even care that he was being treated like some kind of criminal. He was just happy to be out of that little room and give his legs the chance to stretch. They made it out of solitary confinement where he was given his confiscated belongings and was sent on his way. As he walked along the trail towards the academy building, he looked at his wrist to check out his new D-Band. He sighed as he pulled his sleeve down to cover it up. Every time he saw it, it really did remind him that he wasn't going to be treated the same anymore and that made him sad. He just hoped that his friends would still accept him if they were to ever find out the truth.

He finally made it to the school grounds, where he saw his friends standing in a circle talking amongst each other by the front entrance. Despite how depressed he felt, he did his best to put on his signature smile. "Hey guys! Did you miss me?" He yelled out as he confidently walked over to them. As soon as Syrus saw him, tears started to well up in his eyes. "Jaden… Where have you been?! Do you know how worried I've been about you?!" He said as he ran over and jumped into the young vampire's arms while crying into his chest.

Jaden looked down at his best friend delicately as he hugged him back and patted his back. "And I'm sorry about that. It was wrong of me to disappear on you like that, but I promise everything is alright now." Alexis, who was now standing next to him, sighed as she crossed her arms and started scolding him. "So what happened Jay? Syrus has been crying over you nonstop. Three days is a long time to disappear without telling any of us."

Jaden started rubbing the back of his neck as he nervously laughed. "Oh. About that. I got into a fight and then I got in trouble for it. I've been in the brig waiting for them to release me." Everyone went silent as they stared at him with wide, shocked expressions. They just couldn't believe that Jaden, the most nicest guy in the entire school, got into a fight of all things. It was just very out of character to hear from him. "Don't tell me Chazz was the one you got into a fight with?" Alexis said as she rolled her eyes. "I guess that bozo didn't learn his lesson after the stunt he pulled during lunch. I bet you roughed him up pretty good with your duel spirits."

"Well what would you expect? He's a monster. His kind are always going to be jerks! Once a jerk always a jerk!" Syrus said as he puffed out his cheeks and furrowed his brows. Jaden felt his heart twinge with pain after hearing his best friend say that. "H-hey. Now that's not fair to say, Sy. Just because Chazz is a monster doesn't make that the reason why he is the way he is. Maybe he just feels misunderstood and lonely." He said as he shrugged his shoulders. Bastion tilted his head as he stared at his Slifer friend. "Since when did you start defending him? Did you get a concussion or something?"

Before Jaden could reply, he could faintly sense Chazz's Yokai energy as he started approaching the school building himself. His probation must have just ended too because this was the first time any of them had seen him since him and Jaden had their fight in the cafeteria three days ago. Jaden thought it was his opportunity to finally apologize for what happened and ran up to greet him with a friendly smile. "Hey Chazz! How are you feeling? Are your injuries getting better?" He asked kindly.

Chazz was preoccupied messing with the gauze that he had wrapped around his forehead which still had a deep gash from where Jaden flicked him. When he saw the young vampire approaching, he glared at him and growled, holding his hand up to stop him in his tracks. "Don't come any closer you freak!" He said angrily. Jaden halted before he took another step forward and frowned. "I was just trying to tell you I'm sorry. I took it too far yesterday and I ended up hurting you really bad." Chazz looked away from him, almost like he was afraid to meet his gaze. He still couldn't forget that frightening aura his rival gave off no matter how hard he tried. It was a haunting thing to experience.

"Apology accepted. I wasn't in the right either… I tried to kill you. So, sorry for that." None of them could believe what they heard come out of his mouth. Did they hear him correctly? Did Chazz just actually apologize and take ownership over something wrong that he did? Just what happened between them, Jaden's friends thought to themselves. But it's not like Chazz was actually genuine with his apology. He was just afraid, but he would never admit to that. He just didn't want there to be any more beef between them, because getting into another fight just didn't seem worth it to him anymore.

"Just stay in your lane and I'll stay in mine, you hear me slacker?" Was the last thing Chazz said before he walked past Jaden, who grabbed him by the shoulder to say one more thing to him before the werewolf left. "Hey… You're not going to tell anyone my secret, are you? I know they're going to find out at some point, but I'm not ready for that yet." Jaden whispered into his ear loud enough for only Chazz to hear. Chazz sucked his teeth but nodded his head and left without saying another word. Jaden felt a sigh of relief knowing that his secret was safe, at least for a little while.

They all entered the school building together and went to their first period which was Professor Crowler's class. They all sat down in their seats when the school bell rang. "Alright class! I have a special announcement! Before we start todays lesson, we are all going to meet in the arena for an assembly. The Headmaster from Yokai Academy has come today to address the rules for the annual school crossover." While the human students groaned, loathing this time of the year, the few monsters who were present cheered and high fived amongst themselves. They were all big fans of Tsukune Aono, the current Headmaster.

He was a legend among the Yokai Academy alumni along with his group of friends who helped to stop Alucard all those years ago. While the humans only remember that day as a tragedy and devastation, it was a day of celebration for the monsters who truly believed in the coexistence between their species. "Oh, except for you Jaden. You have been summoned to the Chancellor's office. Apparently he has something important to discuss with you, slacker. Now get your butt moving before I sick my Ancient Gear Golem on your lazy behind!" He yelled out while comically stomping his feet which made the rest of his students laugh at him.

Syrus looked over at his best friend who was sitting next to him with worry filled eyes. "Geez Jay! You just got out of probation and you're already getting into trouble again?! Just what did you do this time?" He said while wagging his finger. "It's nothing like that! I haven't done anything, I swear! Or at least I don't think I did." He said as he smiled while rubbing the back of his head. "I said get going!" Professor Crowler yelled again while he pulled out his duel disk threateningly. Jaden gulped nervously as he stood up. "Y-yes sir!" He said before he hurriedly rushed out of the classroom.

Jaden walked down the hallway towards the Chancellor's office with his hands in his pockets. He had no doubt in his mind he probably wanted to talk more about his past with him, although he already said everything he was willing to tell. As he made it to the large double oak doors, Jaden flinched when he felt the energy that was coming from inside. It was dark, thick and heavy. A sensation he hadn't felt in a very long time. He braced himself, preparing for the worst before he yanked the doors open while holding his breath. "You called for me Chancellor Shepherd?!" He asked with his eyes closed tightly.

"Ahem." Said a gentle voice which Jaden recognized all too well. His eyes shot open and he was greeted with a welcoming sight. Sitting in the chair opposite from the Chancellor's deck was Tsukune Aono. He still looked eighteen years old because after being turned into a vampire, he started aging at a much slower rate. His face had grown more handsome, and his hair, which used to be a dark brown, was now closer to an ash brown. And even though he was in his human form, it was hard to ignore the enormous size of his Yokai energy. "It's been a while Jaden. How have you been?"

Jaden didn't know why, but his eyes started watering the minute that he saw him. He clenched his teeth together as he choked back a sob and ran into the older boys arms, who quickly welcomed it and laughed. "Gosh, you're such a crybaby! Did you really miss me that badly? I saw you over the summer!" He chuckled slightly as he rubbed the younger vampires back who sniffled as he wiped his nose on his sleeve. "That's still too long… I used to live with you. It's hard not seeing the faces of the people who helped raise you. And considering who I thought you were before I opened that door, I'm glad it's you and not-" "You're glad it's not who?" Said a deep, sexy feminine voice.

Jaden felt a lump in the back of his throat and turned his head slowly to look behind him. Leaning against the wall was none other than Moka Akashiya. She had just gotten more beautiful over the years. Her long silver hair flowed down past her butt and her sharp vampiric eyes couldn't help but glare daggers at him which cut right through Jaden's very soul. "You brat! How dare you talk about me like that, after all I did to raise you! Learn your place!" She said as she stomped over and karate chopped Jaden in the head, who fell face first onto the floor with powerful force, steam now rising off the top of his head where a lump started to form.

Tsukune frantically flailed his arms as he stepped in between them. "Careful Moka! You can really hurt him! His powers are still sealed!" He said as he started to help Jaden up off the ground. "Oh please. That Rosario used to be mine. If Outer Moka could handle the pain every time she was attacked then a simple chop like that shouldn't phase him too bad." She said as she cockily crossed her arms and scoffed. "Ow… Why didn't you tell me she was here?" He said as he whimpered while rubbing the bump on his head. Tsukune scratched his cheek as he laughed nervously. "Well, you didn't ask. And it's not like I said she wasn't here. You just assumed that."

"He didn't notice me because he was too focused on you. It's because you coddled him too much when he was a child, Tsukune. And now he's gone all soft. He needs to be disciplined more." She said as she flipped her hair and Jaden shot her a glare, but as soon as she looked back at him he stared off in a random direction as he started to whistle pretending like he didn't do anything. Chancellor Shepherd sat awkwardly at his desk, waiting for them to finish. "Now that that's out of the way, can we go back to our original business? It won't be long before you have to speak at the assembly, Headmaster."

They all took their seats with Jaden sitting between Moka and Tsukune. He played with his hands nervously and stared at the ground. He had never been in a situation like this before, where both of his guardians were at his school. It felt like he did something bad and got called in for a parent-teacher conference. "And before you ask Jaden, we already discussed much before you got here. I know what your relationship is to these two. They filled me in on almost everything." Jaden looked up shocked as he stared between the two older vampires. "Is it really okay to tell him? I mean… I messed up. The only reason you guys had to get involved was because I was reckless." He said as he frowned.

Moka rolled her eyes. "Tell us something we don't know? Now, show me the damage. We need to assess what state the Rosario is in now." He hesitated for a moment but complied with her request. He pulled his shirt collar down and both Moka and Tsukune leaned in to analyze it. On appearance alone, it seemed just fine. However, after a few minutes of waiting, they saw that alarming spark of electricity. Moka sighed as she leaned back in her chair. "You truly are a bothersome little brother, aren't you? Well the problem is clear. You've maxed out it's power output. The Rosario was originally created only for me by my mother Akasha. It was never supposed to be yours, I simply let you borrow it upon your mother's request since she was the one who fixed it into working condition."

"So, what does that mean exactly?" Jaden asked as he tilted his head to the side. "What it means is that your power is just continuing to grow and the Rosario can't keep up with it. Without an occasional release of the Yokai energy in your body, it will eventually break completely. Almost like a fuse blowing out. I had a similar problem, but back then I had Tsukune who could remove the Rosario for me." She said as she took ahold of her partners hand. "But the question is, why did it stop working so suddenly? Did something happen that gave you a burst of demonic energy?"

Jaden thought about telling them about the mysterious shadow that approached him in his dream, but he was scared about what they were going to say. Until he could get more information about that person himself, he wanted to keep his mouth shut about the whole thing until the time was right. "Well, another S-ranked monster challenged me to a fight. I was on death's door, but I just thought really hard about how I didn't want to die. The next thing I know, I transformed." Which wasn't technically a lie, but it wasn't the whole truth either.

Tsukune walked over to him and held his hand over the Rosario, with a ring of blue light swirling around his hand. It was a magic spell that the previous headmaster taught him in case something like this ever happened. "There. That should put a cast on the cracks that are starting to form, but it's not going to be a permanent solution. What we need to do it find you a key." He said as he sat back down. "A key is what I was to Moka. A person who's energy signature is so close to the wavelengths of the seal that they can manually remove it whenever. If you can find someone like that, you can be able to release the extra energy whenever you need to. And a plus is that you can get your powers back! It must be hard going to a school with such a hostile environment between monsters and humans. If you get attacked again, you'll be able to have more than just your duel spirits to rely on."

Jaden scoffed at the idea. But what other choice did he have? He never wanted to give control back to his other half ever again! He hated that guy! But if he didn't then the seal would risk being broken all together, and he couldn't have that either. If the Rosario were to ever break, then his personality would disappear forever. "Okay, I see your point. But just how am I going to do that?! It seems almost impossible!" He said as he grumbled underneath his breath. "Well, why not start off with your friends? There are still many mysteries behind the Rosario's magic, but I think people whom you get along with the best would be good candidates to becoming your key." Jaden didn't like the sound of that.

"No! No way! I can't bring this up to them!" He said as he abruptly stood up from his seat, accidentally pushing it down in the process. "If I do, they'll find out I'm a vampire! They'll hate me!" He said as he started backing up. "Jaden! You need to calm down!" Tsukune said as he tried to calm him down, but Jaden just smacked his hand away. "No! I won't! They mean everything to me and they hate monsters! I! I! Ugh!" He yelled as he ran out of the room in a hurry. There was just no way he could do something like that! "Jaden! Stop!" Tsukune said as he went to follow him, but Moka stopped him by grabbing onto his arm. "Just let the brat go. He'll find out for himself just how much of a fool he is being."
