Chapter 2:The Orphanage

"Alright, we're here."said Venerius as he ushered them in to the clinic. He sat outside as he waited for them to finish with the tests.

As expected they had no traces of the virus which was unnatural for someone who had broken free from the virus but no one questioned as they all feared opening up barely healing scars. It was getting late when they left the hospital so Venerius couldn't help himself but ask,

"So, do you have a place to sleep?"asked Venerius,this question was obviously rhetorical as he knew that there was no way that they would actually have a place to stay at.

"You know what, don't worry about it I know where I can get you a place to sleep for the days till when you plan to go to you place of your own."he said as he signalled for them to start following him.

After walking for a while they finally arrived at their destination. It was a slightly run down building with two stories on the balcony was a large banner brightly displaying the words,

'AMMA'S HOME FOR LITTLE BLESSINGS.'

"Welcome to my humble abode."said Venerius as he gave way for them to make themselves home. This was where Venerius had lived all his life he had even been upgraded from one of the kids to their part-time caretaker.

"Let me talk to the head care taker meanwhile you can sit at the Dining table as you wait for dinner to be served I am sure your hungry. Right now the kids are already asleep."

With that he disappeared leaving them to their own devices. They adhered to his instructions and went to the dining room and sit down.

Jeremy checked the halls and everything leading towards dining and once he was satisfied that there was no one coming their way he finally took a seat and joined his friends.

Although they had confirmed that there would be no one coming they still chose to speak with sign language.

"One could never be cautious enough." explained the leader-Layla- through sign language.

Right now if anyone from the new generation walked up to them and saw them they would probably think that it was a game or something as sign language was a dead language.

As much as it was a dead language some people did speak in it so they could never really be safe from eavesdropping.

Meanwhile in the head care taker's office.

"I know that you are just trying to help them but we're barely holding on with the orphanage's expenses. We can't manage to take them in it would be too many mouths to feed and I'm afraid that we won't be able to. The donations are getting lower and lower with each passing day Venerius I'm sorry but I can't manage to accommodate them."said the head care taker.

She wasn't wrong, the orphanage had been having it tough with the reduced donations to it and it was becoming tough to even manage themselves.

On the other hand Venerius refused to take no for an answer to his question.

"What if I squeeze in with the boys in my room and you give the girls some space in the girls dorm instead."said Venerius.

"Well the idea is quite feasible. Why do you insist so much on helping them?"the head care taker couldn't help herself but ask the question that had been bugging her for quite a while

"I don't know myself, it's just that I saw their pity state and couldn't help myself.

I guess I put myself in their shoes and wanted them to feel welcomed back to society after breaking free from the curse."replied Venerius

The head care taker answered with a simple,"Mhhm... I see. Now get going!"as she chased him out of her office.

"I just hope he's made the right decision by trusting them."the head care taker said to herself.

Venerius left the head care taker's office happy of his achievement.

He went straight towards the kitchen and warmed the few leftovers he could find.

Carrying the five plates on a tray he went to the dining room.

"I'm baaaaack."announced Venerius as he got to the room. The silent discussion that was taking place ceased immediately.

Venerius placed the plates if food on the table and turned to return the tray to the kitchen.

A few moments later he was back, he took a seat and joined them in eating as he had also not eaten the whole day.

The food itself wasn't much and it wasn't something he could put on airs for.

"I know it isn't much but you be surprised with how full you'll be once your done."said Venerius

His friends though we're too busy munching on the food.

'It's as if they hadn't eaten for years,'thought to himself Venerius,'Ah that makes sense since they just escape from the clutches of the curse.'

Not long after he was also taking in the food at a monstrous speed.

'I'm doing this just to keep up with them.' Venerius thought to assure himself.

Soon they were done and it was time to now go to sleep.

"You guys will wait for me here as I show the girls where to sleep."he told the other guys as he started leading the girls to the female dormitories.

He led them to the girls dorm and showed them the furthest, bed it was a bunk bed long enough to accommodate the two of them without causing them much discomfort.

After showing them their room he went down to the basement and took two worn out mattresses and went to where the boys were as he passed near them a muffled

"Follow me."could be heard they followed behind him without wasting time.

Soon, they got into a room which looked barely able to squeeze the two of them in.
