The Fireflies

During the long nights of the world, the Sun's light fades. So during the night, who shines upon the Earth? This same question rang through the entire world when the Moon was extinguished and the Sun became the only light to the world. The dark night was unforgiving, drowning out the light from the Sun and tying up the few unlucky enough to be exposed when the Sun set. In order to fight back, the Sun split its power into fragments and scattered them down to the ground to spread around the world. And so the fragments did. The fragments flew around the world, spreading their light during the night, flying around the world. But during the day, the Sun's own light burned up the light of the broken pieces, killing the shatters, calling them back to the Sun. The pieces soon learned to hide themselves during the day in order to survive, and only come out at night to illuminate the world. Even today, the fragments still do their duty, shining and glowing during the night. Fireflies.
