The Blind Fish

Once upon a time, there lived a Fish. The Fish lived in a river among other fish, exploring the crystal waters. At the tail of the river, there was a gaping cave, so dark that it seemed to consume all light that wandered into it. Among the fish, there was one rule; no one would go into the cave, as the fish feared what would happen to those who would enter it. When the Fish had eventually traveled across the entirety of the river, the Fish grew curious as to what lay in the cave. The Fish resisted the urge to explore the cave for months, but curiosity overcame the little Fish. One night, the Fish ventured into the cavern, journeying into the great unknown. As soon as the Fish entered the cave, blinding darkness swarmed over the Fish, disorienting the Fish. After living in the light for so long, the Fish was overwhelmed by the shadows. Unable to see, the Fish attempted to swim out but found themself swimming deeper and deeper into the cavern. Overwhelmed by the new environment, the Fish clung to their sight, relying on it to guide them. But their sight had abandoned them. Nothing could look familiar, with the dark clawing at the Fish's eyes. When they realized that their eyes had truly failed, the Fish relaxed and closed their eyes, trusting in their own judgment. As simple as that, the Fish had become the Blind Fish. The Blind Fish lived in the cave for the rest of their life, never again opening their eyes and instead using their own guidance to swim. The Blind Fish never found their way out of the cave, and even if it could have, it's questionable as to whether they would have wanted to. Today, blind fish are scattered around the world, dwelling in caves like their ancestor. But unlike their ancestor, the blind fish have no eyes at all; a tribute to their forebearer.
