Tornado

The sky was dark with heavy clouds which were about to burst any time. Anyone could tell it was going to rain today but still she was standing there ready to face anything. The people around were running, there was a news that a tornado will be hitting the shore today. But how come she had the courage to stand at the port, the sea right in front of her. The people were pushing around, trying to get away from the sea port as much as possible. Suddenly she heard a child's cry. After standing there for so long without budging, this was the first time her head turned. As soon as she turned her head she spotted a little girl, she was around 4 years old to what she saw. The port was almost clear, no one was there just that little girl. The winds were blowing harder than before. She could sense something big and really bad was about to happen. The ships at the port starting going up and down as the waves were getting bigger.

A big wave suddenly hit the shore and the ship jumped. Now the water from the sea getting over the platform and reaching the safe line. She still didn't budge, it was like she was inviting the tornado to take her with it. Then she noticed that the waves were getting higher as the sky was getting darker. Suddenly there was a lightning and that was the first time when her body reacted to it and she ran towards the little girl. With a swift movement, she picked the girl up and started running away from the port. At this time she didn't know how her mind was working and how come she is running. She ran down the stairs and then away from the whole area. She couldn't look back, she was very scared and she realised that this feeling was something she felt for the first time. Due to running for so long her legs started to pain. And because of carrying extra weight, she felt numb. She fell down, scrapping her knees in the process and that's when she realised how tired she was. The little girl got down from her arms and ran towards the house. The house was made from bamboo, it wasn't too big and just had a single door. As she had no more energy left she just sat there.

After a few minutes her body fell entirely on the floor. The ground was hard, her eyes closed slowly and her body felt lifeless. That was when she fainted.

She woke up, the ground was no more hard. It took her sometime to fully open her eyes and when she did, she just saw a small room in which she was in. She was laying on a soft mattress but she felt something stinging and when she tried to get up she realised it was her knees. The little girl approached her slowly, when she saw her she was confused. Then a lady in her 40's came near her. She was taken aback when she saw her. She wasn't expecting anyone to help her and thought everyone would have left the town already.

It was common for them to experience this kind of situations. After every 2-3 years this would happen and the people would leave the town as soon as they got to know about it. Even though now they knew what the had to do and have resources to leave the town in this kind of situation about 15 years ago the fate of the people wasn't the same.

Having too many thoughts in mind already, she asked the lady if the storm has surpassed. But the lady told her that it will be hitting the shore tomorrow and it will be good if she leaves with them. The lady even offered to help her stand and take her to the last few carts that were left. Refusing the lady offer she tried to stand herself but failed. At this time her emotions were complex, after experiencing all the pain, the strongest emotion she could feel was guilt and it was clearly shown in her eyes. The lady was not able to understand but still took her hand and helped her stand. The little girl followed just behind them. As the reached the cart, she gathered all her strength and with all the energy left inside her body she ran again towards the same port where she was standing just a few hours ago.
