THE UNSEEN BURDEN
After Alex got out, Jonathan decided to get a breather and head home.
Getting home Jonathan came out of his car and stumbled towards the door. His mind still feeling with questions
"How is it possible to absorb pressure"
"Why did he not collapse"
He kept asking himself and the more he thought about it, the more his head spun.
After getting inside, he dropped himself on the couch feeling too exhausted to go to his room. His body was feeling extremely weak and sluggish. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so drained. Even his thoughts were affected. It was as if he was trapped in a fog that he couldn't escape no matter how he tried
For now, Jonathan decided to sleep
Just as he was starting to drift off, he heard the sound of jingling keys as well as the click of the door when it opened
The only person that had the key was his wife and daughter. He wasn't worried that it was an intruder in the slightest
Who would be foolish to enter my house without permission. That was the thought revolving around his head and as expected, it was his wife that came in
Ava came into the house only to see he r husband in the couch
"Hi honey," she said
"Hey baby" Jonathan replied tiredly
Ava immediately frowned when she heard his tired voice
She also noticed his tired expression as they were dark bags on his face as of he hadn't slept for days.
"What happened to you honey?," she asked
Jonathan didn't reply for a while and ava patiently waited for Jonathan to reply
"I had a rough encounter at the academy today,"
Ava didn't say anything and allowed Jonathan to voice out his thoughts.
Jonathan then told ava about his encounter with alex
And ava was immediately terrified after hearing that Jonathan almost died.
"So what are you going to do now," Ava asked with a concerned face
Her hands holding his
"I don't know," Jonathan replied
"I don't know what to do"
They stayed like that in silence holding hands while trying to think of a way forward
"Ava..." Jonathan started
"Why don't I take alex as my student" he continued
"No" ava immediately denied his request
"Don't u see what he did to you"
"Why do you want to take in that monster as your student" she continued as she broke down into tears
Jonathan didn't reply and comforted her until she had stopped
"It's because when all those things were happening, I could see it in his eyes."
"He wasn't aware of anything in his eyes or the power that resides within his body"
" if not thought properly, that power may spiral out of control one day and might cause a catastrophe, "
"It's also worse if someone else found out about that power and it falls into the wrong path"
"That's why I must take this risk ava, for the sake of the world and our future"
Ava once again broke down in tears after hearing Jonathan's speech and while crying
She said "okay honey, I'll support you with all I have"
So they stayed like that all through the night while sleeping in each other's embrace, not knowing that their worst fears is already about to come to pass
