chapter three

"Baili shouted for his mother to retreat with them. A male devil appeared from the entrance of the altar.

In the altar, there was a statue of a werewolf; the Dai family believed that the werewolf was their ancestor.

The secret passage was located at the foot of the statue. Dai Xin took out a crystalline black bead and threw it at the statue. The bead sparked, and an underground door opened.

She turned to Javis, "Quick, take the boy with you." Javis didn't say a word and simply grabbed Baili, dashing to the underground door. Baili cried out as he begged his mother to follow them.

Dai Xin waved at them quickly. She didn't say another word as she wordlessly pulled the crystal and destroyed it. One of the imps that didn't join the attack before struck her with a short spear.

Blood spurted from her mouth, but there was a smile on her face. The underground door had closed, and the only means of opening it, the crystal, had been destroyed by her. Baili was safe. Even though she knew she would eventually die, she would die without regret.

The underground door at the foot of the altar was built by the Dai family ancestor, even though they do not know how it was built. They knew quite well that nobody could open it without the black crystal, and there are only two of them.

She had destroyed one, and before the Devil's race could get their hands on the other, they must have already gone far.

Inside the underground tunnel, Baili shouted as he tried to pull himself from Javis's strong grip.

"We have to go back; we have to save mom! Leave me, let me go."

Javis didn't want to, but he had to wake this boy to reality. "Baili, let me tell you, not a single soul that remains in the city will survive."

He didn't say anything else as he grabbed Baili and climbed the tunnel with great speed. Baili no longer struggled. There were tears in his eyes.

Soon, they managed to reach the mouth of the tunnel. Baili was thrown out first before Javis climbed out.

Baili kneeled at the mouth of the cave and didn't move. Javis decided to let him be as he tried to inspect the area. Baili looked up to the heavens; he felt great rage in his heart. He must take revenge for what happened today.

Looking up at the heavens, he shouted in a defiant voice, "I, Baili, I swear on my very own existence that as long as I live, I must seek revenge for what happened today."

Javis was touched by what he said. He is still ten years old but already carries such resentment in his heart.

"We should go now. I think I have figured out where this is. It seems to be the northern side of the Nor forest. If I am wrong, not far from here, there is a cave. That is where I hid my flying beast, the green condor.

Javis is quite notorious in nature and would always escape from the city. He hid his flying beast in the forest nearby so he could have easy access to it whenever he needed to leave the city.

Luckily enough, the tunnel exit is located close to where his flying beast was hidden.

Baili didn't say a word as he silently followed him. In order to take revenge, he has to gain strength, and in order to gain strength, he has to live first.

The two dashed to the forest.

After ten minutes, they managed to reach the place where the condor is hidden.

Javis gave a strange whistle; the silhouette of a gigantic green-colored condor appeared from the cave. The condor raised its head cockily and looked at Baili, as if scrutinizing him.

Baili felt goosebumps on being stared at by the large bird. Javis patted the bird on the head. "Come on, big guy, don't look at him like that. He is my little brother. Right now, we have to escape, and you have to be a good boy and take us out of here fast."

The green condor nodded as if it understood what was said. It bent its huge body, and the two jumped on it.

The green condor stood straight as it flapped its huge wings. It took flight. It was the first time for Baili to fly with any flying beast. He really liked the feeling, and the scenery of the forest from up there looked good, but he wasn't currently in the mood to admire it.

The condor flew at full speed. Baili turned to Javis, "Uncle Javis, where are we going to go now?"

After catching his breath, Baili grabbed the body of the ferocious beast as he retreated back to the tent.

Back in the tent, Javis had already made a bonfire. There was a boar-like ferocious beast on top of the bonfire, its body full of grease.

"You are back," Javis called out.

"Yes, I guess I nearly lost my life," Baili said as he tossed the rabbit.

Javis laughed, "We are naturally going to the city of Avax. It's a more powerful city than Ornifal, and the dominant race is humans, so it's naturally the best place for us."

"Where did the others go?" Baili was curious.

"Naturally, they didn't go to Avax. Not all factions tolerate feys, most especially the West Cang Empire, to which the city of Avax belongs," Javis replied.

He continued, "They are most probably in the Eastern Fey Empire."

Baili nodded in understanding. He had heard about the Eastern Fey Empire. It was an empire dominated by the fey race, and the younger generation of the Dai family would probably be welcomed there.

The condor flew for eight hours before Javis made it land on an uninhabited island.

"We will be resting here," Javis explained.

Baili nodded.

"Aish, we have nothing to make a tent. We will have to cut some bamboo sticks and palm fronds to make tents with."

Baili only nodded; he wasn't in the mood to say much.

After making the tent, the two decided to split up and hunt for food. The animals on the island are all very low level, and Javis didn't have to worry about Baili's safety.

"Here," Javis said as he gave Baili his dagger. "For your safety."

Baili nodded toward him. "Thank you, Uncle." Baili grabbed the hilt of the dagger, admiring its sharp edges.

He turned and walked to the area he felt safe because of the number of trees; they would provide him cover if the need arises.

After walking for ten minutes, he didn't see a thing. Just when he was about to sit and rest a little, he heard a little disturbance behind him.

Baili felt a sense of danger. He dashed to the side, and a very fluffy beast dashed to where he was staying a few moments ago. Baili turned but was stunned on seeing the beast.

It was a very cute rabbit, but this didn't make Baili let his guard down. The sense of danger he felt just now couldn't possibly come from just a normal cute rabbit.

The rabbit looked at Baili with a very cute face. Seeing that Baili was not moved, the rabbit's mouth opened, showing very sharp fangs. Fire was spit from its mouth, dashing towards Baili.

Baili was quick to react since he hadn't let his guard down in the slightest.

"So it was a fire rabbit after all," Baili thought to himself. Fire rabbits are among the high-grade low-class ferocious beasts; they are known for having very sharp fangs and the ability to spit out fire.

Baili had heard of them before; they use their cute appearance to make their enemies lower their guards before striking them, dealing them a heavy blow.

The fire was dodged by Baili, and the ferocious beast gave a frustrated expression as it gave chase. Baili dashed into the woods; he wasn't actually abandoning the fight. Instead, he wanted to take advantage of the geography of the place.

He grabbed a branch of a tree that looked like a spear as he forcefully broke it. Turning around, the beast continued giving chase. Baili smirked, cutting a sharp bend; Baili turned his body forcefully as he deflected a spear with the tree branch.

"Thunk!" The sound of the tree branch penetrating the ferocious beast's flesh could be heard. The ferocious beast was disoriented, and Baili took the opportunity to rush at it with his dagger; he struck the ferocious beast. The ferocious beast gave a loud shriek before slumping.

Baili couldn't help but lie on the ground greedily sucking in air as he tried hard to catch his breath.

After catching his breath, Baili grabbed the body of the ferocious beast as he retreated back to the tent."
