The Seeker System

After the 'Century of Phenomena', humanity had declined by more than two thirds it's population and eventually pushed back into 'Zones' where they were forced to live in 'District Cities'. The world outside the zones had become desolate wastelands inhospitable for them. The 'Century of Phenomena' brought plagues and destruction. Turning most plants and animals into horrid mutant beasts, unleashing monstrous creatures from 'Gates', and turning undead, the fallen population of humanity. But, it also brought hope for the survivors to endure the warped landscape. It brought forth an explosive advancement in technology and filled the earth with magic. Humans even experienced 'Evolutions' only seen in fantasy. It took half a century before that Hell unleashed and forced humans back. Now, evolved/awakened humans are known as 'Seekers' that delve into the wastelands within their zones to scrounge for treasures, artifacts, and anything useful. They also clear 'Gates' to procure the same. Life within the 'District Cities' was almost the same as before the Phenomena. Seekers are the heroes of society, and hold much influence. Connor W. Michael is one such Seeker. But, he is the weakest to ever awaken. Abused as a lowly 'Porter', he endures things worse than any mutant, monster. or zombie... Human Cruelty. But this is his beginning, the beginning of his journey from The Weakest to The Strongest.

System Awakening and Sweet Revenge

When Connor opened his eyes, a cracked and dirty marble ceiling greeted his sight. Connor groaned, sat up and began to look around. The broken alter laid in a pile of rubble, indicating that the being called Invidia was indeed a real being.

Connor sighed and began to stand up. As he did so, a blue transparent screen popped up in front of his face.

[Would you like to leave the Cathedral of Desire?: Yes No]

"What in the..? Yes?" Connor questioned. The scenery suddenly changed and Connor found himself outside the gate. Connor looked around in utter astonishment.

[You have left the Cathedral of Desire.]

"Oh..." Connor stared at the transparent blue window. His brain still mulling the odd appearance and utility of the screen.

[Would you like to check your status?: Yes]

"Well, since that's the only option. Yes." Connor answered. His curiosity more piqued by the details of these blue windows appearing before him.

"This is quite peculiar. Skills? Ah... what despicable skills... or... wait a moment. That could be quite handy. But, the question is... how does it work? If an instant kill only does one percent damage... am I basically Immortal?" Connor muttered.

In that moment, Connor heard a noise coming from the gate. Connor quickly looked around for a place to hide. He spotted a nearby tree and swiftly climbed it to observe the gate. Three figures came out of the Gate, laughing and carrying on.

"I seriously still can't stop laughing! His face was priceless! Finally, after so long, I got to see that despair!" Minerva laughed. The three approached the tree Connor was hiding in and placed the giant bag of supplies next to it.

"Enough, Minerva. We could laugh and enjoy it in the gate, but now we need to feign sorrow. To sell our story, we need to be pretty beat up." Carl stated, his arms crossed. A sudden thought crossed Connors mind.

'If they weaken themselves, I could finish them off!'

"Man, just try not to permanently damage my face, yeah?" Wilson commented.

"I'll have to use a weapon. Magic would be a little much." Minerva stated. The three moved quite a ways away.

The trio soon began fighting, making sure that they didn't kill eachother, but they did wound eachother quite harshly. Connor snuck down quietly and quickly to the bag of supplies.

His dagger was still where he left it, hanging on the side. He snatched it and climbed back up. It was a simple dagger, dull and rusted without a sheath.

Connor stared at the two windows in absolute astonishment.

'But that was my dagger...'

Connor continued to watch the three fight from his hifden spot in the tree. Tge three fought for awhile until they were fairly exhausted and wounded. Once the three decided they were wounded enough, they returned to the tree and Wilson grabbed the bag, practically dragging it due to his exhaustion.

"Just leave it. We don't need it yet. As a matter of fact, just hide it somewhere. We need to act as if our Porter died, carrying around that blasted bag would only bring suspicion." Carl told Wilson. Him and Minerva walked away, back towards 13.

"Right." Wilson dragged the bag back towards the tree, and began to look up. Connor froze. He was certain he was about to get caught. He began to run through options. Would he drop down, quickly stab Wilson in the neck, or remain still and hope 'Sneak' would conceal him?

Wilson look all the way up, eyes locking with Connor. Realization dawned across his face, and Connor chose option 1. He dropped down and swiftly plunged his dull dagger deep into Wilson's neck. Wilson's eyes were wide in horror and surprise. Anger and hatred followed, then death all in the span of a few seconds.

Neither Minerva or Carl had seen Connor yet. So Connor retreated further away and hid in nearby foliage. His heart was beating loudly, but not from nervousness, from exhilaration.

The seemingly endless amount of screens flooded Connors vision. The last one seemed to grant a minor bit of knowledge in dagger use, the dagger in his hand felt more familiar than before. Connor looked through the foliage to see what the other two were doing.

They had just seen Wilson and were jeering at him from afar about him being weak. When Wilson didn't move, Carl began to walk back towards the now dead Wilson. Connor moved along the outskirts of Carl's vision. He moved from cover to cover until he was closer to Minerva.

Carl was almost within distance of noticing Wilson's death, so Connor the chance while Carl was busy and snuck up to Minerva. His skills seemed to activate on their own, as he seemingly, instinctively grabbed Minerva from behind and plunged the dagger several times into her throat and chest. He then spun her around to make sure she saw who it was that killed her.

She attempted to scream, but only gurgled blood. Horror spread across her face as she realized who killed her. Connor stood staring at Carl. Waiting for him to reach Wilson and then turn around.

Carl had finally reached Wilson and immediately turned to shout for Minerva, only to see her at the feet of Connor. Carl's face showed disbelief, shock, horror, and then anger.

"YOU! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD!" Carl raged and the ran towards Connor, drawing his giant sword. Connor didn't wait for him, he ran towards the raging Carl. Carl drew his sword back, charging up his swing. Once he was in range, he swung it, aiming for Connors neck. Connor, knowing every move Carl would make, easily dodged the swing by ducking.

Connors chance to strike was the moment between the duck and the end of the momentum of the swing. Using his 'Dagger Arts' he launched towards the only opening in Carl's Armor, his armpit. The dagger plunged deeply into Carl's flesh.

Carl yelled and batted Connor away. Connor flew a few feet before hitting the ground. But he quickly rolled to his feet and faced Carl. Carl grabbed the dagger stuck in his body and yanked it out. He quickly began to bleed out.

"Interesting..." Connor muttered. It was as if he had reawakened. Carl rushed towards Connor but fell after a few steps. Blood pooled under him. Carl was staring hatefully at Connor.

"You... bastard! How... dare you!" Carl huffed. his breath getting more and more shallow. His voice getting weaker and weaker. Connor approached the dying man and picked up his giant sword. It was heavy, but manageable.

"How dare I? I didn't dare do anything. I just simply... got my desire." Connor answered as he kicked Carl down onto his back and put the giant sword to Carl's neck, just under his chin.

"I... hope... you die... miserably!" Carl cursed Connor with his final breath as Connor plunged the sword through the Guardians throat. Blood spurted lightly, as there wasn't much left in his body.

"In due time." Connor muttered as he stepped back from the corpse.
