Touched by Divinities

In the dark library, two figures were both leaning against the library counter while sitting on the floor. They were both asleep. The boy had his head leaning on the counter while the girl has her head against the boy's shoulder. They somehow created a harmonious view.

A few meters away from them, two figures were watching them. They were a pair of a boy and girl. The boy was sitting at the top of the table, one of his feet rested against the chair in front of him creating a somehow relaxed and lazy atmosphere around him.

The boy--- no, the young man looked like between age 18 to 20. With sharp jaw, thin red lips and sharp uptilted eyes in a pale white skin, the young man was exquisitely beautiful.

The girl on the other hand looked like she's about 16 to 18 years old. Golden skin kissed by the sun, High cheekbones, and wide eyes with long eyelashes, it was a face that speaks of a race in the southeast living in scattered islands. Below the girl's right eye, one would see a golden tattoo in the form of a dawning sun with a swirling pattern like a wave spiraling downward below the girl's cheek. She was sitting on the edge of the table, her feet dangling.

They were both so beautiful, but there was just something so different about them. Both of them had features that if other people were to see, no one would surely be able to ignore.

The young man has a silver hair so fine as if it was made of very fine silver threads. The girl's hair however, it was a dark red that was faintly glowing, creating an illusion as if it was on fire. The red color of a burning coal.

Both of them were faintly glowing, from their skin to their hair to their eyes. It gives out what they are.

Something that were definitely... Not human.

"Tsk. Humans are really foolish." The young man eyed the two sleeping figures in the dark. His eyes, orbs of deep sapphire with a ring of silver insides were cold, looking indifferently at the boy and girl.

The red haired girl said nothing. Eyes of liquid gold, so bright as if they contain the dawning sun itself stared at the sleeping boy and girl, unblinking.

Her golden eyes were unreadable and while she was staring at Eugine and Mira, it was as if she was not really seeing them. After a while, she blinked and the glow in her eyes disappeared. She looked at the young man beside her.

"What are you doing here." She asked, her voice was warm, but strong.

"You're so cold. We've known each other for months already, but this is the first time we showed each other's true face. I thought we are already friends."

The girl glared at him silently. She exhaled before looking away. "So? What should I call you, oh Guardian of the West?"

The young man grinned. "Bai Ho. I go by Bai Ho right now."

The girl rolled her eyes. Despite the fact that Bai Ho was grinning and showing a happy face, she didn't relax her guard.

Bai Ho continued to speak, ignoring her silence.

"What made the Fairy of the Morning so interested in these humans?"

"Its Hanan. I don't like being called in those titles. And its none of your business. Dont meddle with the works of another divinity."

Bai Ho only grinned. "Dont be like that. Im just curious. Its not everyday that a Diwata like you would actively be involved with the life of a mortal."

Hanan threw him a sideway glance. "Have you never done it before?"

Bai Ho became thoughtful and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, the blue of his eyes became deeper, as if to reflect the wisdom and memories inside that no mortal would ever be able to take. "Never like this. I was always a silent judge. I don't really care what they do. Whatever the mortals do, I only wait for the end result."

"Then you'll never understand." Hanan said.

"Maybe. What's the point of doing this anyway? If you wanted them to change their future, just tell them what to do. Or make the future you want to see happen. You can definitely do that. It's faster that way."

"Divinities are bound by law. We cannot just manipulate human lives like that. There is no way you do not know that. Stop playing games with me." Hanan rolled her eyes on him.

Bai Ho laughed. "I know. But just because we shouldn't, doesn't mean we can't. It's frustrating to watch them. Rarely I've seen a human walk away from their fate. If Im already going to meddle with their life, I might as well meddle thoroughly that it will make an absolute change to their fate."

Hanan looked at Bai Ho and let out a single chuckle, as if finding him cute. "Like what you said, you've never done it before so you do not know what are the consequences of doing that. Celestial laws are there for a reason."

It was Bai Ho's turn to roll his eyes. "We got sidetracked. So, what did you see? Has their fate changed?"

Hanan was silent for a moment before answering. "It changed. But the ending was still uncertain. I cannot see it."

"What the. It means your interference was not enough. This is annoying. If you're afraid of the punishment, I'll do it for you."

He straightened out and prepared to get off the table. His eyes became alive and glowed. He got off the table but suddenly stopped. A hand held his arm in vice grip. He turned to see Hanan looking seriously at him.

"I told you not to do anything." Hanan glared at him, her golden eyes glowed, blazing with restrained power.

The air crackled with power as two divinities stared at each other, silver blue against liquid gold.

It was Bai Ho who relented first. "Relax. I was just kidding. Why are you so serious?"

She knew he was being serious. Hanan also let go of his arm. She didn't answer.

She didn't tell him, that when divinities meddle directly on the lives of humans, it was always the humans who suffer the consequences. She'd seen it too many times. Divinities cannot fully empathize with mortals. They see mortal lives as a short and fleeting interaction to their endless life. So when the situation ends where gods have to make choices, they always leave the humans to shoulder the punishment. Divinities can leave unscathed, but mortals can't.

"Humans always have to make their own choices that will decide their fate. It's their privilege and burden." She said while staring at Eugine and Mira.

Even though Bai Ho and Hanan was talking normally, the two didn't show a sign of waking up. They continued to sleep, unaware of the presence of another beings in the room.

"Your choice." Bai Ho shrugged. "Let's go. We've stayed for too long."

Hanan didn't move. Instead, she walked closer to Mira and Eugine until she was just a meter away. She squatted in front of them. Hanan stared at Mira's face, her eyes warm and gentle.

I hope you make the right choices. I hope you get the happiness you desire.

Hanan stood up and turned away. "Let's go."

Bai Ho bowed with his hand on his chest. "Ladies first."

Hanan just glanced at him before her body burst into many orange butterflies. When the butterflies disappeared, she was nowhere to be seen.

Bai Ho smirked and said, "So dramatic." before his own body glowed. When the light disappeared, only blue fireflies remained.

The room returned to silence.
