The Feeling of Hopelessness

In front of the main building, the president of the student council who was also the Rank 1 was trying to call the teachers through the phone. However, the meeting between the teachers is currently on going, with all of their cellphones in silent mode.

Joseph looked at his phone in frustration before looking at the girl standing at the edge of the rooftop. He surveryed his surroundings before calling one student.

"Hey you." He called. "Go to the guidance office right now. Tell the teachers about the situation. Hurry." He ordered.

Another student who is also in the student council came to him, holding a megaphone. Joseph took a deep breath before taking the megaphone, then he spoke.

Within two minutes, Han Eugine was able to climb to the rooftop. His heart was pounding so hard and he was gasping for breath. As if someone was playing jokes on him, the elevator was currently under maintenance, he had no choice but to use the stairs. He wasn't athletic in the first place, so climbing the stairs in hurry was pushing it. He felt as if he couldn't get enough oxygen.

While the whole school was just beginning to notice what's happening, Eugine was already on the rooftop. However, he paused when he saw the closed door. He tried to open it but the door wouldn't budge.

He pounded the door with his fist. "Mira?"

He tried to call her but nobody was answering.

At the rooftop.

Mira was currently trying to fold the big banner. She first checked if the paint has really dried before carefully folding it and putting it in a bag. Thinking that Jamie and Kang Jun was waiting for her, she checked her cellphone only to realized that it was already shut down.

Mira was pretty observant but there were times when she dont notice what's happening around her. The wind blew gently, further calming her. She carried the bag with the banner to go downstairs when she heard it.

Someone was pounding the rooftop door from the other side and calling her name. She went to check it when she saw a chain wrapped around the door handle.

"Mira!" The voice called again.

Mira's heart skipped a beat. It was a voice she would recognize always and immediately.

"Eugine?"

On the other side of the door, Eugine paused.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

Mira nodded then realized that he cant see her. "Im fine."

Eugine sighed in relief. "Why would you do that? Open the door. Whatever it is, Im sure its something that has a solution. Open the door."

Mira listened in confusion. "Do what? What are you talking about? Also, I cant open the door. There's a chain wrapped around the handle. Its locked..." Mira trailed off. The door was locked from the outside, so whoever locked it is still in the rooftop...

Mira looked around before her eyes stopped in that figure.

A girl was standing at the edge of the rooftop. Mira cant see who it was.

Eugine tensed when Mira became quiet. "Mira?"

"There is a girl... " At first, she couldn't understand what's happening and when she did, her heart started beating too fast. She faintly heard Eugine calling her name.

She dropped the banner that she was holding and in urgency, ran towards the girl before abruptly stopping a few steps away from her.

She tried to calm her heart, her voice slightly shaking, she gently called out.

There are a lot of words that she knew she could say, but nothing was coming to her mind. In the end, she said the simplest ones she could think of.

"Excuse me, its dangerous there. Come down, please?"

The girl turned her face to look at her. Mira's eyes widened in recognition.

"Dont come closer or I will jump." Hannah said while looking at her with an empty eyes and eerily calm voice. It was a voice of someone who no longer cared about anything anymore.

Mira did not dare to come closer.

Meanwhile, Eugine was trying to open the door by repeatedly ramming to it. His shoulder ached but the door was still closed. He tried kicking it again and again but it also didn't work. Feeling stupid and comical, he sighed in frustration. Atleast now he knows that Mira wasn't trying to kill herself. But from the sound of it, there was another girl in the rooftop and that's the one who was probably trying to kill herself.

His relief suddenly turned into horror again. If that girl really jumped while Mira was trying to stop her... To see someone jumped to their death in front of you, that kind of trauma is something that he would never wish into anyone, especially Mira.

With renewed urgency, Eugine's brain quickly worked. He eyed the door, this is ISOA, the materials used to build this school was that of the highest quality, the rooftop door is no exception. He reckoned that even if he breaks all of his bones by ramming his body to the door, he probably wouldn't be able to bring it down.

He ran downstairs. When he reached the fourth floor, his eyes quickly ran until he found what he was looking for.

The fourth floor was empty. He didn't know how much time had passed but he wondered where are the teachers? Why isn't anyone coming? His shoulder throbbed in pain but he ignored it. No matter what, he couldn't wait until someone arrives. What if they arrive too late? Until people arrives, he and Mira is on their own.

Clutching the thing in his hands, he climbed to the rooftop again. He took a deep breath before started hitting the door with the fire extinguisher.

On the rooftop, Mira was trying to persuade Hannah.

"Calm down please. Let's talk it over. Okay?"

Hannah continued to stare at her without answering. Half a minute had passed but to Mira, it was very long. She tried to take another step but Hannah spoke to her, freezing her in her place.

"Do you know how hopelessness feels like?" She asked her.
