STELLA

"And today's final announcement is about the hunt for the remaining five teenagers, folks remember to stay safe as-

The vintage television set was shut down before the announcement could be even finished. Across the room sat a girl, her head buried in her hands muttering profanities under her breath. They would find her soon just like they found the other teens. I feel sick, Stella thought. In a blink of an eye she found herself in the bathroom, head inside the toilet puking her insides out. "At least teleportation came of some use," she muttered to herself while wiping some vomit from her mouth from the fabric of her flannel shirt.

The sun was starting to set. The orange hues illuminating the whole disease stricken land and making it look something it was not. It made it look beautiful. The sky was a mixture of pink and orange and scarlet. And in these days where there was so much chaos, so much fear there was an odd comfort in watching the sun rise and set. Stella had been living the same year seventeen times and called it a life. But the only time she had truly lived was looking at the sun. Something so bigger and brighter than she would ever be. In the midst of this moment, her feet dangling from the edge of the roof and eyes fixated on the wondrous sight she smelt something. Burning. It was the smell of burning. Although it seemed far away it still brought an awful stench from where she was.

The short moment was outlived as she decided to investigate the strange smell. She closed her eyes tight and clenched her fists. Stella could feel herself being sucked in the portal and the next thing she knew she was outside an abandoned building which just as she suspected was on flames. Out of all the places it was strange to find out the homeless shelter would end up in fire. Unless- No, it couldn't be. Could it possibly mean there was someone with powers living inside there? Only one way to find out. Even though Stella was a considerable distance away from the shelter she could feel herself practically melting under the heat. So she took her dark hair and pulled it into a bun before readying herself to go inside. In a few seconds she disappeared inside the portal and appeared inside the shelter.

Inside she landed on a flight of stairs and used her hands to cushion her fall. From there she could see a figure standing at the doorway but something was strange. He just stood there swaying from side to side. The same unsteadiness of a person who was about to faint. Then again Stella couldn't waste any time and grabbed him and teleported him outside just in time. They both landed inside Stella's house. Correction. They both crashed down on Stella's table making it crush underneath their weight. Stella rolled off the table with a painful groan and was going to help the stranger but his unconscious body rolled itself and kept rolling until it hit a wall. She couldn't help but chuckle and strode over to him. The boy had a mop of pale brown hair that obscured part of his eyes. He wore a pair of jeans which looked part torn and a plain white shirt. If she hadn't known better the boy looked almost peaceful. He looked peaceful until the moment he woke up with an ear deafening scream that resembled the sound of a cat screeching.

"Who are you?" the boy screamed still lying on the floor his head turned towards the girl.

Stella seemed unfazed and plopped beside him on the floor and replied, "Well since I saved you, you should tell me your name first."

Realization crossed the boy's face and he spent a minute looking around the house and grumbled out a name which Stella couldn't quite hear.

She cupped her hand around her ear and said, 'I'm sorry could you say that again I couldn't hear you."

The boy then looked at her and replied, "Alexander"

"Well nice to meet you Alexander," she said while extending a hand for him to shake. Instead he just swatted it away and got up dusting himself.

He walked over to leave before Stella stopped him. "Wait," she yelled her hand outsretched for him to stop. Alexander looked over his shoulder and waited for her to speak. "I'm not stopping you from leaving but I'm assuming since the shelter burned down you have nowhere to go so you could stay here with me."

Alexander looked at her with squinted eyes and replied, "I don't even know you why would I stay here?" his voice dripping with venom.

"Because we could form a some sort of I don't know, alliance?"

"What?" he asked, confused

Stella then added, "Well I was assuming you might have been the one who started the fire, with you know your powers? I hear the news everyday and apparently there's this group called the Elemental's so I thou-

"Yes, I'm one of the people who survived the virus but how do I know you won't turn me in to the government?" he snapped

She paused contemplating her words before saying, "Because I'm just like you."
