Heritage part 2

Waking from my deep slumber I looked over at mother, I wonder what she secrets she will unveil when my remain siblings break free. Listening intently the cave was filled with the sound of not only one but now two of my siblings trying to break free of their shells. Smiling to myself I knew that one was close to emerging and now that one more was hatching I was one step closer to what Mother was going to tell us.

When the sun was setting and the sky a light orange on the horizon, I heard something hit the hard stone floor of the cave. Looking up I realized that my sibling finally had emerged from their shell, looking around with new life in their eyes. They had scales of the almost the same color as Mother, a beautiful red not as dark as my own but still a shade that was the same as a roaring fire. Hearing this as well Mother woke from her slumber and approached the hatchling. "Child I see you have finally emerged. Lower your head so I might see your mark." hearing this my sibling lowered their head as told. "The mark of the Inferno. At least one of my children will posses the same mark as I" Mother said under her breath. "I know the perfect name for you little one, I Tanaca the Scarlet name you Apollonia and imbue it with my Draconian heritage." At once the same circle or semitransparent runes filled the air above Apollonia slowly descending until they finally wrapped around her entire being, then brightly burned themselves into her very soul.

"Soon your other sibling will emerge from their shell" Mother remarked while aproaching the last of her eggs yet to show any signs of hatching. she leaned closer to its surface inspecting it, after listening for a moment she said with a hint on sorrow in her voice. "It seems that my last child has already perished within their egg. Valorian, Apollonia you are to share in their essence and the power that would have been." hearing this my sister and I looked at each other with a predatory gaze, I immediately lunged at the egg of my already dead sibling and began to break open the shell. I stopped momentarily to look at my sister "Rawr (Help me or I will not leave any for you.) I said resolutely. With a puzzled look in her eye she tried to respond to me only managing a few growls, "Growl (Mother will teach you how to speak when you gain more strength)" I said with a hint of arrogance knowing that I immediately master the art of Draconic speech with mothers assistance.

Apollonia nodded in understanding then trotted over to assist me in breaking open our siblings shell. Before long with the assistance of the fact that I was already eight days hatched and much stronger that her, cracks began to form on the shells surface. Eventually after hours of effort we were able to break the shell and began consuming it.

Knowing that there was power that not only laid within the shell but our deceased sibling as well I started to rip them apart and devour all that I could before Apollonia could take the majority of the feast for herself. At first she did not know what to think of me eating the body of my sibling as well but then her instincts and what little of her Heritage she had unlocked told her that that was where the true bounty lie. Once she realized this she began to fight with me over what was left of our sibling.

Before to long both egg and body were greadily devoured by us and feeling of power washed over me. "Rawr- Growl (Mother why is it that my siblings flesh gives the feeling of new life being pouring into my very being when the carcass you brought previously did not warrant the same gain?)".

Mother looked in my direction before remarking "That would be because the Sleipnir I brought you does not have the same magical potency that even a new born dragon commands. I will explain these things to you when your other sibling emerges from their shell."

I looked at the last egg with great interest, I wonder when my last sibling will finally emerge from their shell and join us?

After seeing that there was nothing left for me to eat as the rest of the Sleipnir was already allotted to my sister, I returned to what has slowly turned into my resting area, a small flat area on the far side of the cave shielded from view by three large pillars and after lying down went back to sleep.

I awoke to the sound of shell hitting the hard ground and my mother greeting the newest addition to our family. Looking at my newest sibling you could hardly tell just from the color of our scales that we were siblings, she possessed scales as white as a fresh coat of snow, and eyes that shown bright red. As she was looking away from me I could easily see what looked like a illustration that ran from the top of the back of her head all the way to the bottom of the neck. Even though I had no idea what it represented it was intricate and majestic looking like a rolling tide crashing against a cliff with storm clouds above and lightning striking the water.

My mother having already asked to see this design remarked "ah the mark of the storm, and you posses the white scales and red eyes of a mutation. I wonder who these traits where passed to you from, surely not your father. Well it matters not, I know a name that will suit you perfectly my child.  I Tanaca the Scarlet name you Corentine and imbue it with my Draconian heritage."

The same events that happened for myself and my other sister followed where runes etched themselves into her soul with blinding light.
