Heritage part 1

As soon as she finished speaking a semi transparent ring of runes appeared in the air above me. once fully formed the runes drifted towards me, not knowing what to do I just waited for them to envelope me. As soon as they touched my skin it felt as if they where being etched into my very soul. Every bit of knowledge that my ancestors had obtained flooded into me, but instead of it filling my brain with so many lives worth of experience that it would turn to mush. It instead sealed itself inside my soul, from the little information that was not sealed away I could tell that it was for my own good. Having that much information dumped into a living being all at once would be catastrophic to their mind. Once I was done reeling from the horrific pain that I had just experienced, I know realized that not once since I had hatched did I speak like mother Tanaca does so fluently.

Trying to speak only gave a few small whimpers and growls, "My little Valorian it is much to early for you to try and converse in the common language, instead try speaking through your natural sounds and insert meaning into them."

Now trying to speak through my own natural way on making sound but just imbuing meaning into each made it much easier. "Rawr (Thank you Mother)". "Oh you have already learned draconian speech through just one small suggestion, very impressive." "Rawr-Growl (Mother is it really that impressive for me to have learned so quickly?)" I asked thinking that it was not all that hard to do once pointed in the right direction. "Yes my child normally it would take anywhere between a weeks to months for a hatchling to converse." she said with amazement. Suddenly a cracking sound echoing throughout the cave, "It looks as if your sibling has finally decided to join us." Mother said while walking over to the egg and observing my siblings first trial.

I walked to stand beside my mother as we now both observed my sibling trying to break free of their shell to join us. "Once all of your remaining siblings have either joined us or perished due to their own inablity to break free of their shell I will educate you on what it means to be a member of the Scarlet clan." mother said while looking down at me at her side. "Rawr-Rawr (How long will it take them to break free? I did not have a great perception of time while I made the same effort.)" "It depends but between the time I first saw cracks appear on your own shell to when I returned to find you free, I would say a week at most."

Soon Mother left the cave while leaving me with a few words, "Valorian you are to guard your siblings while I go and hunt prey for you to eat. I expect you to abstain from eating another one of your siblings while I am gone or I will feed you to the next hatchling." At first I did not understand her now contradicting statements that at first it was good for me to have consumed my sibling but now doing so would be akin to jumping from the cliff mother now stood on. "You will come to understand my reasoning within the next few months while the Draconic Heritage slowly unravels into your mind."

Now alone in the cave I curled myself into a hidden recess of the cave to await mothers return, every so often I could hear the dull thumps of my sibling continuing to try and break free of their shell.

A few days later I could hear the tell tale sounds of mother returning, the gale that she produced with each flap of her over 30 meter wing span could be heard miles away from the cave. Having not eaten for several days at this point not wanting to incite mothers wrath I quickly bounded to the front of the cave. As I arrived I soon found that to be a mistake as the winds produced by her landing through me back inside as if I was a leaf in the wind. Looking up I saw her with what looked to be a abnormally large Elk within her jaws, it had two pairs of legs on both the front and back of its body making it look rather imposing. She made her was to the middle of the cave where the eggs were located and dropped the carcass next to them.

"Valorian come eat I know you must be hungry, this Eldar Sleipnir will nourish your growth." without even stopping to thank her I quickly stood up and ran to the Sleipnir carcass and began excitedly devouring every piece of it. Hearing a low rumble I stopped my feast to look at the source, "You are to leave half for your sibling or you will get no more at all." Reluctantly I slowed my consumption "Rawr (Yes Mother)." "Good, I will now rest, do not wake me." Mother stated looking rather tired from the hunt. I lower my head slightly to show acknowledgment then continued eating.

Walking to the side of the cave where a large smooth slab was located she lay down and began her slumber. Once I finished my allotted section of the Sleipnir carcass then returned to my recess to embark on my own slumber.
