The first address took him to the west side of the city, to a street comprised primarily of small homes, anchored at one end by apartment buildings. The address he needed was a weather-beaten white, clapboard house in the middle of the block. The yard was small, and the grass needed cutting

Not quite what I expected, but then he’s probably only renting until he makes inroads into the Whalen’s territory. Either he doesn’t know who he’s going up against, or he thinks he’s enough of a big shot that he can beat Whalen at his own game.

Beau continued down the street to the corner, took a right, and then another one down the alley behind the house. The back yard of the house was marginally larger than the front one, with a garage taking up half of it, facing the alley. As he drove by, Beau saw movement behind one of the upstairs blinds then someone lifted a slat to peer out. Not that Beau cared. Whoever it was wouldn’t be able to see that it was him driving.
