Not that Beau particularly cared. If people were going to act stupidly, they got what they deserved. His job, he figured, would be to make certain no one caused trouble when they found out what their playing around was going to cost them—one way or another.

“I accept your offer, Mr. Whalen. When would you like me to start?”

“Tomorrow evening. You’ll report to Karl. He’s the man who let you in, and the head of my security force. I expect you to dress in a dark shirt and slacks, and to be carrying, in an IWB holster. The club supplies your jacket.”

Beau nodded. “What if I don’t own a gun?”

“Then you’re not the sort of man I want working here. However, I think that’s a moot point. Correct?”

“Definitely.”

“Good. Find Karl. He’ll give you paperwork to fill out. I won’t belittle you by asking if you have the requisite identification.”

“Thanks. And thank you for hiring me.”
