Chapter Fourteen: Christophe

The smell was intoxicating and drove Lucas crazy.

'Mate,' he kept repeating. 'Mate.'

I abruptly turned, surprising the woman I was dancing with but I didn't care. There she was, my mate She was wearing a blue gown, which I found funny because I'm pretty sure the invitation said to wear red, orange, or yellow. she had beautiful hair, and her lips were plump and would look great around my--

"Are we going to finish our dance?" The woman I was dancing with says.

"Leave," I say, without turning around. I wanted to stare and my mate forever.

"Excuse me?"

"I said leave."

She scoffs and walks away, but I wasn't paying attention. I was busy working up the nerve to go ask my mate to dance.

'Since have I been nervous about talking to a woman? Go, before some else asks her' Lacus impatiently.

By the time I had worked up the courage, she already dancing with someone else. The amount of jealousy I was feeling was enough to kill. I had to remind myself to calm down. When they finally stopped dancing, she left the ballroom, asking for the bathroom, and I follow her.

"We're sorry, but you may leave at the moment," the guard stopped.

"I'm pretty sure I can," I say, lifting my mask.

"My apologies, Your Majesty," he bows, opening the door.

I saw her walk past the bathroom, curious little bunny, MY curious little bunny. She headed outside and took a deep breath and took her mask off, smiling as she looked up. "I thought you were supposed to keep your masks on at a masquerade ball," I ask, surprising her. I walk closer, craving her touch, as she turns around and I saw her eyes, the most beautiful ones I have ever seen I wanted to stare into them forever.

"I was just taking a break," her voice was angelic and I couldn't wait to hear her scream my name in bed.

"It's overwhelming in there isn't it?" I ask, wanting to hear her voice again, I was so close to her Lucas was going mad. Sadly she didn't answer

My eyes move down to her full lips and my head fills with naughty thought as she licks them.

"May I have a dance?" I ask, giving her my hand.

"Sure," She takes my hand and I feel sparks and she gasps.

She felt them, I think, she felt them!

I snake my hand around her waist and pull her flush against me and we dance to the loud music. After a while, she says that her feet hurt, and as much as I don't want to, I let go and we sit on a bench.

What's your name?" I ask, desperate to know and to hear her voice.

"Carmen. Hernández," she says, taking off her... Sneakers?

"You wore sneakers to a ball?" I ask in disbelief.

"Yeah, I did. You got a problem?" she glares and I smile, even though she can't see me due to my mask.

"No, I'm just surprised, I have never met a woman who wore sneakers to a social event."

"Well, I don't understand how people wear heels, they're so uncomfortable."

"At least you were never stepped on when dancing with someone wearing heels," I say.

"Says who?" she asks and we start laughing.

"How do you feel about the prince?" I ask, wanting to know what she thinks about the idea of me.

"I think he is stuck up prick," she answers.

'Mate doesn't love us' Lucas whimpers.

It's okay, I think, albeit I felt hurt too.

"Why do you say that?"I ask, hurt.

"Who throws a ball and doesn't show up?" she says angrily.

"How do you know he didn't show up?"

"Because there weren't any trumpet or grand entrances. He probably thinks he's so great, making girls wait thinking they'll fall heads over heels for him. I'm so glad I wore blue, that ought to show him that I don't care."

"Oh," I said. I wanted to cry, my mate hated me.

"I'm going to head back, wanna come?" she asks, standing.

"Let's go."

When we got back to the party, a girl walks up to her and I walk away.

I watch her a little more before she leaves. I go up to my office with the intention of writing a letter.
